Ever since its widespread use in World War I and its subsequent rise in popularity among military and law enforcement agencies around the world, the 9x19 Parabellum round, or 9mm, has become the most widely used caliber in handguns, submachine guns, and other small arms, accounting for over 20% of all ammunition sales. In this episode, Bill and Mas break down the advancements in the adoption of the 9mm cartridge, and some of the obstacles and limitations it has overcome throughout the years.

No it's not better than the 38/357, it needs hollow pints to gain enough energy dump. He said it best at the beginning not enough gunfighter nations. We built a whole country on the fact we talk, we then agrue, then we yell, than cooler heads step in and if things need to calm down they will. We will fight f or what we think is right the gang bangers fight for and over disrespect, they think it can be demanded. Mosaad is right and it is the most popular but it is weaker than the 38 and way wimpy to the 357, 44,45acp and even 38 super. I would take the 380 over the 9, in fact that's all I have.

DeleteSo you’re saying that the lead roundnose and soft point bullets of 38/357 are just as good as the HPs? Have to call bullshit on that one. The companies that make defensive ammo didn’t start making HPs on a whim. They make them BECAUSE THEY WORK.
You might want to give yourself a refresher on ballistics on 9mm vs 38spl.
In the same (or within a couple grains) bullet weights the 9 is anywhere from 100 to 200 fps faster. Sure, 357 is faster BECAUSE IT’S A MAGNUM. You are also locked into 6-8 rounds tops and a sloooow reload compared to a mag fed gun.
I started out carrying with a 357 4” revo. That led to a 1911 5”.
I now carry a 9mm because I can hit faster and more accurately than with either of the above platforms, (Verified in competition) and I can carry a full BOX of ammo if I bring along 2 extra mags.
Wow! All I can say, with all due respect, is that you have no idea of what you're talking about.
DeleteI like Claymores, dandy little buggers. Problem is my supply line dried up when I separated from the Cavalry. Does Bezos sell Claymores on Amazon? Let’s see, some caps, wire, and a clacker. Oh and Front towards enemy.
ReplyDeleteJoking aside, its shot placement, and who gets the first shot off. Well that and Claymores or arty. Ggeeessss don’t get me started on Artillery and Call for Fire. Its ALWAYS better to shoot someone else’s bullets.

Dishing out the truth one blog comment at a time. Suck it up butter cup.
All good points, but why the 9 short instead of the 9 Luger? I have some of both and carry dependent on clothing mostly; I don't practice enough but emphasize shot placement.
ReplyDeleteThanks
The 9mm is not my first choice for a defensive round but I wouldn't pass it by on my way to my first choice either.
ReplyDelete9mm is a compromise in the controllable 32, 38, 380, 9mm and 357 categories. NATO membership brings lots of minuses and very few if any pluses and compromises are the name of the game.
The military doesn't consider the killing power of the round but the ability to patch up the person shot. Nice clean holes are much easier to patch up than the tissue damage expanding rounds do.

Well, Cavguy and leaperman seem to "get it". Chalk that up to experience, I'd say. Ohio Guy
ReplyDeleteYeah well, I want more than 'just enough hitting power', I don't give a fuck about recoil, and I enjoy range time, so I'll stick with my 45.
DeleteDon't blame ya a bit. Calibers are like titties. They all require a nice firm squeeze. Ohio Guy
DeleteI love my 9mm and wouldn't trade it. Higher capacity, less recoil, equals more shots accurately on target. Not to mention very little difference in stopping power.

If one must use 9mm at least carry a proper delivery system: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Hi-Power
