Reactions to Tennessee's upcoming Permitless Carry

‘Slap in the face’: Reaction comes in as Governor signs permitless carry law

GALLATIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — Governor Bill Lee ceremoniously signed the permitless carry gun bill at Beretta, a firearm manufacturer, in Gallatin Wednesday.

Gov. Lee is reigniting conversation over the controversial bill that allows Tennesseans ages 21 and over and military members over the age of 18 to carry open or concealed handguns without a permit. It also increases punishments for gun-related crimes.

How constitutional carry law will impact police and Black gun owners in Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — With constitutional carry just one month away from going into effect in Tennessee, Gov. Bill Lee on Wednesday held the ceremonial signing of the bill.

So how this new law will impact minority communities as well as police practices?

  1. What I always find so interesting about constitutional carry is that every state that has implemented it has seen both violent and property crime go down, yet the anti-gun crowd always talks about "shootouts like the old West" and "blood flowing in the streets". But it never happens.

Talk about a disconnect from reality!

    1. Same thing when states go from "May Issue" to "Shall Issue" CCW permits.

    2. Reality has nothing at all to do with it, they just want us and our ilk disarmed and this moves them a step backward from their goal. They know that the 'blood in the streets' and 'wild west' comments are completely baseless and only evoked to scare the sheep into objecting to law abiding citizens being armed and demanding 'official' protection.

  2. Hell I think there should be a law requiring all non-criminals over the age of 21 to carry a firearm when outside their house.

  3. It only took about 3 minutes for me to do a comparison of gun death numbers between a Constitutional Carry State and a neighboring Gun Control paradise State. Illinois had over 1,300 deaths in 2019, while Kentucky had a little under 700. So nearly double the rates of "gun violence" in the place that Dems and other pearl clutches want us to emulate here in TN.

    1. The funny part is, and I've seen it on news conferences, they blame the lax gun control laws in neighboring states for their crime problems.
Why THOSE states do not have rampant crime and a feral population out of control never enters their minds. So long as they can blame someone else.

    2. Sorry ML but your quick comparison stinks. Illinois population 12.67 Mil Kentucky population 4.468 Mil Take this with a grain of salt. I am not saying you're premise is wrong, however the basis used for your premise is faulty. Anyone simply checking these numbers could counter by insisting the state with the tougher gun laws had LOWER DEATHS PER CAPITA. Oops.

Don't be like the gun grabbers. Use solid data to back yourself up.

  4. As a white person, I see less harassment from law enforcement and more LEGAL carry for people of so called color.

  5. Karen Camper disapproves....

    "Karen". From Memphis. 'nuff said.

Can't say I'm impressed by the gun club spokesmen, either. Strong whiff of 'we be victims!" there.

  8. This is DEFINITELY a slap in the face to all the CW permit holders that had to pay the state a heavy fee for the privelege! Do they get refunds?

    1. Eh, sunk cost. I've been CCW for 20 years already, musta cost me 8 or 10 bucks a year easy. Maybe 15 with the cost of the class, I forget. Definitely didn't amount to a week of Starbucks annually. I got my money's worth.

But I take your point. MUCH better to have fewer people carrying, and everybody registered and fingerprinted and gotta show your papers and all that.

  11. Well, in all honesty, when I lived in California if I had 500 bucks to put out for a new gun or a permit, guess which one I was picking?
