And I thought it was bad when the ammo plant required me to get a home telephone so they could call me in if I was needed on my day off.
That came after I ran off a security guard that was sent to my house to fetch me while I was in a drunken rage at 8 in the morning, but still.....
The article say that phone use is not mandatory. Walmart's history says that there will be penalties for not answering if the phone rings when you're off work.
ReplyDeleteWally-World doesn't pay nearly well enough to put up with bullshit like this.
ReplyDeleteWalmart cannot see personal messages. HAHAHAHA. Tell that to the Walmart mask.
ReplyDeleteThe other half already have Obama-phones, amiright?
ReplyDeleteWell, currently working for Chinese distribution warehouses here in the states is a voluntary kinda thing.
ReplyDeleteMight be at bayonet point in a few years the way things are headed, will be interesting to watch. -Bert
I worked for W/M for a couple years and it's not a bad place for a young person to tread water if they're still looking around. They pay into your retirement, help on medical and pay for college. When I went into work, I worked, I know how novel. Was promoted into management in less than a year.
ReplyDeleteNow aside from the fact they are sending the Chinese 100s of billions every year and 95% of the "food" they sell is processed poison, I made some friends, enjoyed the work(it was literally the first time in my life I worked for someone) and if I wasn't sick to death of w Texas, probably would have stayed.
Pretty much all they want is for you to fucking show up when you're scheduled and do your work.
Indeed, retail is good to start at and beats fast food any day.
DeleteWalmart here in the sticks is effectively automated; that's what happens when people want wage increases for work that doesn't warrant it. The place got polished up and kitted out like a prison complex, cameras everywhere, watchers, so either wal-mart just hates its customers or they had too many people stealing from the location; the latter wouldn't surprise me given the shift in demographics.
+1 on Texas, I can't get out soon enough, the humidity makes it unlivable. I crave cool mountains, forests, and big views. IDAHO!

ARC you must be on the coast!!!grayman
DeleteAnd - purely by accident - your freebie will let them know where you are 24/7
ReplyDeleteEff that. When I am work, I am OFF work. Come looking for me and you're liable to end up with a gun in your face.
ReplyDeleteIn the UK, the over ambitious managers spend their holidays connected to their phones and laptops because the firm couldn't possibly survive for even two weeks without them. For some reason they expect the rest of us to do the same. On ringing us during our holidays they get told, in no uncertain terms to fuck off and not to call again. To their credit, they do tend to get the message.
ReplyDeleteUnless I'm being paid I will not carry a company phone or be on call. If I am on my own time I will choose if I will answer my phone or go into work. If they don't like that they can kiss my lilly white ass

I was just issued a laptop , and the cell phone is coming . I took a maintenance job at work and now I am part of the connected set. I guess in my new job it's to be expected , I figured it was a matter of time. never thought I'd be fixing on lasers !

ReplyDeleteIt's not just a job, it's a freakin' indenture.
