Commentary: Naming the Capitol Police Officer Who Killed Unarmed Ashli Babbitt

Most police departments — including Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police — are required to release an officer’s name within days of a fatal shooting. Not the U.S. Capitol Police, which is controlled by Congress and answers only to Congress. It can keep the public in the dark about the identity and investigation of an officer involved in a shooting indefinitely.

Which is what happened with the Jan. 6 shooting of Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed protester in the U.S. Capitol riot who was fatally wounded by a plainclothes police lieutenant as she attempted to breach a set of doors inside the building.

  1. Yeah. Not subject to disclosure, not subject to Freedom of Information act requests for investigatory reporting, answering only to Congress - unlike the Executive Branch ownership of Justice Department.

And now they want to open up branches around the country, and Congress has given them $2 Billion Dollars to do it. Why? Their only charter function is to protect Congress. Why do they need branch investigative offices? What investigations, under what authority? Why no transparency and oversight? The refusal to disclose the perpetrator of the homicide is a preview of more to come. They are Stasi.

  2. Folks seem to be getting off the slow bus on this whole matter. Let mw try, again, to clarify:

You WILL NOT vote your way out of this
The Courts, cops, fbi, etc., ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM
People holding power WILL NOT give it up peacefully, ever.

So if you're still with me at this point...

YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO SHOOT PEOPLE.

    1. ... and therein lies the problem. Western civilization exists as a place people want to live because its members don't shoot people on their own initiative.
The situation has to get shockingly bad first and there has to emerge a leader who will inspire retribution. Notice this happens AFTER the "really bad" part.
      Plan accordingly.

  3. Mike Byrd.

    His name is Mike Byrd.

If you know him, live near him, go to church with him (yeah, I know), share a fine scotch with him, let him know; we now know, and won't forget. It needs to be long, protracted, painful, and public.

    Coming for you, homie.
