LOS ANGELES, July 8 (Reuters) - Pet adoptions surged during the coronavirus pandemic as people in lockdown sought companionship. But as the world has opened up again, the future looks less rosy for a growing number of animals sent to shelters or adoption centers by owners without the time or money to care for them.
"In the rescue world, we kind of saw it coming," said Chloe Esperiquette, development coordinator at Wags and Walks adoption center in Los Angeles.
When someone doesn't have much choice for where to stay and "no pets" or a stiff pet deposit means getting their kids in a better area, or somewhere at all, Rover or Kitty will have to go. It sucks.
ReplyDeleteMy animals have always factored in heavily when it came to moving. I figured I could adapt better than they can.
DeleteThey do have a choice and if they think they don't they aren't very determined to find a good place.
DeleteWell kept pets typically indicate good owners and balanced finances or an asset column. The only pets I could see not allowing are pit bulls, rottweilers, and various nasty exotics.

Just when I thought I couldn't hate people any more than I already did...
ReplyDeletekind of like having a kid for a while and then when the fun wears off dump them.
ReplyDeleteit will be real easy to hate people who do this shit. I always thought when you got a dog
or cat, it was yours for life. guess other "people" do not think the way I do.
hell, we where feeding a old stray cat and it was hell to her her in a cage to bring with us.
because when we moved ,we knew she would die badly and alone. I will say she done alright up
here, had a couple of good years before the old girl cross the rainbow bridge. great mouser when she was younger. old fred was a good cat. we didn't know until we got her to a vet.
we still look for her when cooking at the stove as she would sit there licking her lips and purring.
Life-long commitment.
ReplyDeleteNot negotiable.
Fuck I hate people.
ReplyDeleteThe sad reality is we live in a throw-away society where domesticated animals are treated no different than used pizza boxes.
ReplyDeletePeople have been throwing away marriages for decades, same with pets.
ReplyDeleteJust one more story to help me validate my position that I like my dog and cats more than I like most people.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. It's my immediate goal for retirement to move to Boundary county Idaho, or united 29 and 30 and go live with the wild animals. If I have generous assets, I may consider a place further north in Alberta Canada or Alaska.
DeleteIt's clear skies, 55-95F and 16% humidity around Bonners Ferry; contrast that to rain, rain, rain, 85-90F, and 70-100% humidity in central Texas. The best I can get is 40% humidity out here which is still pure misery.

This was one of the easiest and earliest predictions I made during the scamdemic.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just spent $662 today on a dog that's not mine (and another $$$ coming in a few weeks), and last week $458 on a stray cat. Go ahead, abandon your animals...you filthy fucking scum. I'll spend the rest of my life in hell knowing at least I did the right thing.
ReplyDeleteWait until it happens with all those guns that were bought in the pandemic.
