    1. I accidentally did this during the Ron Paul campaign back in 2008. The campaign has a shit ton of Mylar balloons in the shape of the Ron Paul blimp that was going around the country. The Super Bowl was in town that year, so we tried to absolutely litter the city with them. One tactic, so that they could not be easily removed, was to tie them loosely to a light pole with fishing line and let them slide up the pole, where they would stay for weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't take into account how electroconductive Mylar is when I let one go up a light pole very near a power pole with some transformers. BBBRRRRRRZZZZZZAAAAAAPPPPPP!!!!!! The arcing cobalt blue plasma was so pretty, yet terrifying at the same time. And that's how downtown Phoenix lost the last 15 minutes of the game when the power went out for 16 blocks.

    2. It is not the mylar, an insulator, it is the aluminium/aluminum it is coated with to make it shiny.
