  2. Hey Ken. Hope this finds you and Miss Lisa doing well. Have been enjoying your blog since well before you moved, and felt compelled to say so. Particularly the Sunday videos, and the "Shit I steal from you that gets me Facebook Jail", more times than I can remember. All the best to you both, Sir.

  7. Cultural appropriation??? Never saw the draw of these chants? Dances?

  8. I can imagine democrats wanting to cancel the haka due to 'cultural appropriation', to be replaced by 'dancing with the sheeple'.
    😂

    1. Would that be like The Chicken Dance? The Achy Breaky Line Dance? The Hi-De-Ho Man is popular at weddings, but no dance moves.

Cultural appropriation is normal. A famous communist singer/banjo player proudly attributed this quote to his musical father, "Plagiarism is basic to all culture." Pete Seeger was very entertaining despite his politics.

    2. Traditional Maori war dance. See one in person and it's impressive. The wedding part.......well you could ask one of my exes about it's place there. lol

    3. I believe the original Hakka was a chant about not being afraid to die.
To sum it up, the guys are sending one of their own to certain death.

  12. Traditional Maori haka, powerful and moving. The strong will understand, the weak and lesser won't...

  13. The men could be rugby players.Rugby players are big.
Maybe this is a romantic haka. Certainly arm through the fist gesture would imply that.
The haka before a rugby game is all about smashing their opponents and dragging their vitals out with bare hand.

  14. Unlikely to be New Zealand, though it is a Maori Haka ... the bride isn't tattooed up to the eyeballs.

  19. I've been told that some haka at weddings are basically "Welcome to the family. Don't hurt ur, or we'll hurt you."

  20. The New Zealand rugby team, the All Blacks, used to perform a haka before their games. The rugby council or whom ever runs the league banned them as they intimidate the other teams t0o much, which is exactly their purpose.
Historically, it was a war dance they performed to intimidate their enemies and install fear.

    1. I just watched a video from 2027 Maori Black's vs Vancouver of the War dance, fucking impressive. One of the Canadian guys looked a little worried.

  21. The Haka is always impressive no matter a wedding or some type of sporting event. An excellent movie to watch about the modern day Maori would be "once were warriors" - it is damn good. Sad but powerful.

  22. A wedding Hakka. So cool

  23. Some of you guys need to get out more and experience different cultures. The Haka is an amazing ritual. And if you're ever present for one and it doesn't get your blood boiling, you need to check your pulse
