Watching the Watchmen

In the inky darkness of a late summer night last September, three cars filled with armed men began circling Birch Lake in northern Michigan, looking for ways to approach Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s three-bedroom vacation cottage, subdue her — using a stun gun if necessary — and drag her away.

One vehicle stopped to check out a boat launch while a second searched in vain for the right house in the thick woods ringing the lake. The third car ran countersurveillance, using night vision goggles to look out for cops and handheld radios to communicate with the others.

  1. The lesson here is, if you're going to do things that are illegal, don't involve anyone you haven't known for a good part of your life.

    1. Trust NOBODY. What about your friend that recently got busted for whatever and the feds cut a deal with him to inform on you? Again, trust nobody.

  2. "The man who’d advised them on where to put the explosives — and offered to get them as much as the task would require — was an undercover FBI agent."

You can always spot the undercover agent. He's the guy who 'knows somebody who can get us explosives.'

    1. The common saying in the 60's was the FBI infiltrator was the guy that was always trying to get you to blow shit up.

  3. It's entrapment plain and simple and that's illegal, but in 2021 the FBI will "wink-wink", the DOJ will shrug their shoulders and the clueless dopes will spend lots of time in the Penitentiary. Welcome to America.

  4. Back in '83 when I was a FPS cadet at FLETC we were warned "Never EVER join a FBI lead task force. They don't want your 'expertise.' They want a fall guy when things go bad."

  5. What kind of operation is it if you’re on the way to the target, but realize you don’t know exactly where the target is. C’mon, even Democrats sucking blood from children while riding dog faced pony soldiers and eating chocolate chocolate chip ice cream cones know the outcome is f’d up. Can’t commit your resources and have a successful op if you don’t know where to send them. I’m assuming this of course.

  7. I find this whole thing bizarre.
About a week before the story hit the news I read a short story on a blog (I've forgotten which blog, and I can't find the story anywhere - go figure) of a plot to kidnap Whitmer that exactly matches this case up to the point where they got arrested. In the story she was hanged and the conspirators got away.
