Finding the biggest catfish with your hands

LAKE SKIATOOK, Okla. (KFOR)— If he’s not working construction, you can find Kaleb Summers swimming through his Oklahoma summer.

But it’s not the water he enjoys. It’s the fishing. “There’s a giant fish on every river system,” he insists. “It just takes finding them.”

The ‘noodling’ season for Oklahoma is nearly complete by late July. The big catfish have moved to deeper waters.

Sorry, but I've seen too many water moccasins and big-ass snappers in the water for me to even consider doing that.

  1. Diver was checking a dam for cracks, operating at the base of the spillway.
Came out and said he wasn't going back in as some of the cats were bigger than he was.

  4. You laugh. Pauls Valley, OK had a noodling contest for years not much money in it. A local kid who made good went back and did a documentary on it. Got it on local PBS next thing I know there are two network reality shows on noodling. Then there is the two hawt sisters on youtube SteveP listed making a killing. Me no way but I know many who do.

  6. We don't have the big, huge snapping turtles in Michigan that they do in some states, but the ones we have are big enough to cut a 2.5 inch branch in half, with just their jaws. I have helped clean and eat them twice, and they are delicious. But I have never went on the hunt for them, on purpose. They were just ones that happened to wander across our driveway when we lived out in the country.
There are a LOT of channel cats around my area, and many people fish for them all summer. We used to have a power plant, with a hot water discharge, and the people would catch huge fish there, even in winter. Here in Michigan, they were known to catch piranha, due to the water never getting cold in winter. Now that they have shut that plant down, I would expect that those fish are no longer around.

  7. It's a blast. We do in on the ross barnett reservoir near Jackson,Ms. We use big boxes with one hole about the size of a basketball one one side and another about a quarter sized on the other. Everyone carries a bamboo stick and when you are "on deck" you check the bunghole with your stick for a fish the guy at bat sticks his arms in until he gets bit. Never had a turtle or snake in one. It's fun!
