Any such system could fail and leave you stranded on the shoulder. Having a $2 door switch prevent your $50,000 car from working is not going to endear you to the customer. Every car I've driven built since the '90s will bing, bong and illuminate a red warning on the instrument cluster if you shift into gear with a door open. Al_in_Ottawa
