In case you're a Jack Daniel fan.....

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. (AP) — The producers of Jack Daniel’s are offering the brand’s first age-stated whiskey in more than a century with the upcoming release of a 10-year-old Tennessee whiskey.

Limited supplies will be available starting next month. The product will become an annual release from the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

I never did care for JD all that much. Oh, I drank the shit out of it when I was in the army but that was mostly because that's what everybody else was drinking. After I got out, I can probably count the bottles of Jack I've drank on the fingers of one hand and still have a finger left over to pick my nose.

  1. Ken,
Buffalo Trace or Weller for me
I think Jack is nasty, back in college, I would always have a bottle on hand for women. I have always thought of it as a women’s whiskey!

    1. For me it's Buffalo Trace, Maker's Mark or Four Roses, all good bourbons that are aged properly unlike that swill, Jack Daniel's.

    2. That escalated quickly.

    3. I wouldn't clean my carburator with buffalo trace!
Try Chattanooga whiskey, their cask strength line is pretty smooth for that proof.

    4. Knob Creek, and if I'm feeling rich, the single barrel reserve.

  2. I liked Black Jack. I also liked Canadian Club. Not to be confused with Canadian Mist. I think my favorite is Shine. Also liked the various wines made in the Holler. Elderberry wine was something. The guy I got my wine off way up in the Holler always had it in Donald Duck orange juice jars. Apple brandy, local and illegal, was pretty good too but I wasn't a big brandy drinker.

  3. I preferred Jim Beam or Wild Turkey when I was younger. I kept a bottle of Gentleman Jack for my father-in-law when he was alive. Somebody gave me a bottle of Bourbon a couple of years back and I cracked it open earlier this year to make some mint juleps for my neighbors when we watched the KY derby earlier this year. I prefer Scotch.

    2. Gentleman Jack at the Post with my peers, Buffalo Trace on the rock (singular) at home getting mellow - and stout/porter for Browns games. Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout, preferably.
      Must be very old...

  5. I'm a Tennessee Squire, which means I own land on Jack Daniels property, prolly a square inch...and received the email blast about this, but for around $75 for a 750ml bottle, don't hold my breath there...

  6. Lotta Jack bashing going on in here. /Shocked. SHOCKED!

I have tried to like Maker's Mark, but I have failed. Too much cloy with all that char barrel vanilla. Jack is my go to. Swill it may be, but it tastes right out the freezer. And you get the big bottle for $29.99.

  7. I'm a squire. I'm not a regular Jack fan. I'll drink it if I'm out of EVERYTHING else, which is rare. I keep a bottle around because one of sons likes it. I prefer J.W. Black. I do drink and like Gentleman Jack. That stuff is sssmmmoooooottthhh and you can drink it neat without burning out your throat which is what Jack does to me.

I'll have to try the age stated. If it's as good as Gentleman's, it'll be a treat.

  8. I like Jack. I can drink a lot of it and not be any bigger an asshole than I am when I’m sober. I know this because my ex wife told me so. Been trying to give my liver a break here lately. Probably a day late and a dollar short on that, too. My fun meter pegged a while back, so I figured I better get back into some kind of shape. Never know when you might have to go a round or two. 1. With all due respect, listening to your ex-wife's opinion about what kind of an asshole you are, with or without Jack, is probably a mistake. I'd go to a more neutral source for an opinion on that subject if I was you. Which I'm not.

Full disclosure: My bride would consider me to be an asshole even if all I ever drank was Celestial Seasonings Green Tea. That's why I stick with Bourbon.

    1. Scotch always tasted like iodine water to me. Thank you Lord for letting humans distill a LOT of booze...

  12. Same. Army ran on JD, and it was almost standard issue. However I used it to 'sterilize' a cut I got from a wall locker while stationed at Palmerola...and sniffed the cut. After I was finished puking, I haven't been able to stomach it since. That was 86, and I haven't had a taste of it since.

  13. See, there ya go, thats what drinking Jack does for ya, makes you dexterous enough to pick your nose with one finner instead of 2 or 3 like everybody else.

  14. :-) Same... Thought I did pay a large number of bar tabs with JD when I was in Germany... Seemed to be popular in the biker bars and was cheap on post...

  15. I guess I'm the only one here who enjoys Crown Royal. Lotsa good whiskeys come from the Great White North. The cost of which almost ensures I don't partake too much. Ohio Guy
