Some say new permitless carry law means greater responsibility for bars and restaurants

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – July marks the first month permitless carry has been legal in Tennessee, allowing adults 21 and older to carry a gun without a permit or concealed carry license.

With the new law, there are restrictions on where someone can carry. The law does not allow a person who has been drinking to carry and some believe restaurants and bars play a key role in making sure that’s enforced.

While I'm generally against anything being mandated by either State or Federal law, it's a must for any new gun owner or anybody carrying a weapon to learn the laws as well as the ins and outs of carrying or using a firearm.
That includes how it functions as well as local and State laws. You need to know all this shit - it may save your life (as well as any innocent bystanders) and it'll keep you from being arrested and charged for say, having a single beer in a restaurant with your meal or carrying your firearm in a park while you watch your kids or grandkids play.
It's not the city's, bar's or restaurant's responsibility, it's yours.

  1. Exactly! It is your personal responsibility. What I fear the left is trying to do now is use businesses to enforce their dictates as a way around the constitution. Isn't that what fascism was?

  2. I totally agree, also learn the laws of the states you visit or travel through. Here in Louisiana we have a must inform provision, if you are engaged with law enforcement on official business, traffic stop for instance, and are carrying concealed you must notify the officer. Not doing so will result in confiscation of the permit and the weapon.

    1. Here's a great resource.

Click on your State to learn the gun laws there, and then click on any State you plan on traveling through to learn theirs.

  3. Most bars and restaurants don't care up here in NH. Then again we've been a constitutional carry state for a while now. There are more than a few places around here that have signs up informing patrons that those carrying firearms are more than welcome on the premises. I think that was done more as a warning to tourists and those "from away" that there would likely be folks carrying sidearms inside the establishment. They certainly won't be able to say they weren't warned.

  4. Go ask my friend Nikki Goeser how that works out. I'll wait.

  5. "Shall NOT be infringed" <---- I don't see ANYTHING there that allows a single solitary "gun law"..... Promoting to others to follow those non-laws (unconstitutional laws) only encourages the morons to make more of them....

    1. Do me a favor and let me know what happens when you get busted for being drunk with a firearm and you tell the arresting cops that.

    2. I don't get drunk... so that isn't going to happen... But I DO stand up for my rights and have stood on the side of the raod arguing with cops who have ATTEMPTED to infringe on my 2nd amendment rights and have NEVER been arrested or even charged for ANYTHING firearm related, because I refused to allow them to get away with it.... Giving people advice to follow these UNCONSTITUTIONAL "laws" is 100% counterproductive in the fight for our rights, and it pisses me off that people who claim to support our rights actively do the opposite thing...

    3. SMH, ok dude don't worry about us, we're just trying to help others stay out of jail. I'm not advocating for illegal laws by providing information but that's way above your head so you carry on with your ignorance.
I would normally wish others luck but that would be above your head to.

    4. There are a lot of laws I disagree with, but know that flaunting that shit will end up with me in a cell, which is no good. Just like I'm smarter than "drawing against the drop" if someone is robbing me, I'm not going to do other things that are morally right but will end really badly for me... unless doing so will make a serious difference. And I'm definitely not going to advocate that others do those kind of things, because I'm not a coward.

This is the kind of thing where making yourself a martyr won't make a serious difference. So don't advocate keeping others from doing it. Go do it yourself, and knock yourself out... if you're man enough. Which I doubt.

  6. Fine then, how about we don't post shit like that and just let people get arrested. What you don't seem to realize is that people DO get arrested every day because they didn't take the time to read the laws.
You can boast and buster all you want, but if you're breaking the law, the cops WILL bust you for it, so tell us how that will help our fight for our Rights.

    1. no, NOT "fine then"..... How about instead of spewing forth "follow this law because if you don't, you can get in trouble" you start telling people to stand up for their fucking rights INSTEAD OF COWERING EVERY TIME THEY SEE A BADGE MONKEY???? Those assholes get away with it precisely BECAUSE hardly anyone ever stands up to them.... Those who spread scare tactics do NOT help, they HINDER....
Have a great day/evening wirecutter, I am through with this thread, as I have said my piece... I greatly enjoy your blog and it is the first I visit every day.

    2. No, I'm not going to advocate that people disobey the law. If they want to do it, that's on them seeing as THEY are going to be the ones that suffer the repercussions, and you better believe there will be some.
I don't know where you are that you can get belligerent with cops while you're armed and get away with it, but that shit won't fly around here or anywhere else I've ever lived or visited.

    3. Kenny, according to the link on his name he's in Ohio. I don't know much about Ohio but like you I've been around the block a couple times and I agree with you, no cop I've ever come across will argue with an armed guy. He will have backup on the scene before you can blink and you will be disarmed voluntary or not, your choice.
So let me offer a compromise,
Axeanda45, do whatever your heart tells you to do and carry on.
To everyone else, learn the laws and save yourself a lot of hassle, expense and get home safe.
      Be safe out there

  7. There is only one law it is the second amendment, all other laws are repugnant to the constitution, thus they are null & void.

  8. It is the Carrier's responsibility NO ONE else. I read an Article the other day that is appropriate. It states if you are going to Carry a gun Do not drink. If you are going to drink do NOT carry a gun.
