Your Thursday Morning Florida Report

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was injured by a jaguar at a Florida zoo after climbing over a barrier and moving too close to the animal’s enclosure, officials said.

The attack occurred Wednesday at the Range of the Jaguar display at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, the Florida Times-Union reported. The man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, zoo officials said.

  1. You should have heard local reporting on that: "A man was injured by a jaguar -- no, not one the team members, the cat..."

  2. Reminds me of the Australian chick that got too close to Binky’s enclosure at the Alaska Zoo. Largely forgotten was the other incident that happened where a couple of teenagers decided to go skinny dipping in Binky’s pool late one summer night. Didn’t end well for the slowest kid. Hope he enjoyed his free ursine-provided gender transition.

  3. I worked as a security supervisor at Zoo Atlanta for two years, 2000-2002. I was astounded by the dumb shit people do in a zoo, and more so by the things they encourage and/or make their children do.

Adults climbing over a fence to get a better photo of the lion/gorilla/orangutan/rhino, not caring that they are then standing at the edge of a 15 to 20 foot drop into either the habitat itself or a dry concrete moat. Parents placing their 3-4-5 year old kid over the same fence and telling them to walk to the edge "so they can see better".

Then they copped an attitude when I put them out of the park for their stupidity.
