Noted in Passing: At the Range

Today I decided to acquire my first pistol in California, the Capitol of “NO” in America. I’d taken the courses at the excellent Downrange in Chico and a fine set of courses they are. I’d reviewed the current state of the proctological process of buying a pistol in California. Because of this I budgeted about 3 hours at Downrange to select the pistol and go through the process.

    2. That's good that he got it. I thought it wouldn't be a problem if he was going through the county sheriff but thought it might be if he lived within the Chico city limits and had to go through their chief of police.

  2. I'm thankful I live in a semi-communist state, PA. It takes all of about 10 minutes to walk out of the dealer with anything that I want.

    1. Believe it or not, it's the same in The People's Republic of Oregon. Computerized background check.

  3. And people still live in that shithole state.

  4. There is a western state which involves no more than a 2 hour class and fourscore and twenty shekels to the government shake down dept to procure the CCW. The class is sit down only. No range time, no hands on shootie thingy.

    1. Believe it or not, in Oregon you can take a proficiency class online. Just fill out the papers at the county sheriff, pay your money, and the CHL is yours. Provided of course, you pass the backgound check. OR is a shall issue state - at least for now.

  6. I am in Michigan. When they passed recreational marijuana a couple of years ago, BATFE said that our CCW licenses could no longer be allowed as a by-pass for a NICS check. The courts ruled that they could not do that, I heard, and so now they are again allowed to be used in lieu of the background check.
Of course, since then, I have not bought any new guns to have to undergo any check. I am getting the itch, but not until reasonable prices on ammo are back again.

    1. I didn't know why we lost the bypass. I bought a hand gun a couple of months ago and the dealer did the NICs check.
