Best way to make a new shooter into a ex-shooter is scaring them with excessive recoil. I had a friend who insisted that his 10year old son shoot his 30/06..poor kid was so recoil shy by the end of the day he never shot a rifle again.
My cousin is an Avid Hunter. When we were both kids hunting Mule Deer we each had a 30/30 Rifles His was a bolt action and mine was a Marlin 336. After a couple of years he switched to a 30/06 bolt action. He had to shoot reduced loads to reduce recoil (defeated the purpose) and still thought it had to much recoil. So he he bought a Remington Model 700 BDL in 22/250 and used that to hunt deer. Me I went to a Voere-Kleingeunther in Remington 7 MM magnum. Moral of the story Recoil is not to be used as a joke. You make a new shooter into a NON-Shooter.
I do. People with small hands, women and men of small stature like me, have to shift their grip to deactivate the safety on a semi-auto. Carrying in condition 3 and practicing draw and chamber makes it marginally as fast as drawing and fumbling with the safety while shifting your grip and all the while trying to bring your pistol to bear with a misaligned grip that degrades accuracy.
As I recall it has saved a few people during scuffles with koranimals when they lost control of their weapon. Never optimal, but better than a lead injection.
Look again, Sendarious. The muzzle never once crossed her body. It swung down as it came around, then up. Another moron who thinks to judge others, but out of ignorance and arrogance. "If it were you...", but it isn't, and I'm pretty sure she could fuck you up in a fire fight.
If you have trouble reaching the safety on a semiauto, carry a semiauto that doesn't have a safety. DA/SA, DAO, and striker are hardly new.
Carrying condition three is dumb. You can cite the Israelis (who quit doing it decades ago) all you want, it's been shown to be a bad idea in the intervening years.
@Patrick D: Your sentence five seems at odds with your sentence four. Do you ever re-read the vitriol that you spout? You know, for internal consistency. You have no idea of my skills, abilities, or experiences, but you anoint yourself as qualified to judge. Forgive me if I don't find you persuasive.
No rational person. Some will argue that they have tiny hands that won't reach a manual safety while properly gripping the weapon, so it's easier to rack a round with their weak hand vs. disengaging the safety with it. I call malarkey on that one. A really scary habit.
You are mistaken. No rational person presumes to pass judgement on how someone else carries their firearm, especially when they are as proficient as she is at deploying that weapon.
I was at a Krav Maga class and the instructor had done some stuff with Israeli police. the carry in condition 3 and on the draw stroke bering it up by the face and push it out to fire along the line of sight. as they do the push into battery pull the slide.
It does work pretty well and eliminates the ND option.
Condition one takes some serious concentration and most people are not that serious. If you carry with one in the pipe you need to have a decocker.
But I carry revolvers for the most part so not an issue.
#8 reminds my of a previous boss' wife. She inherited her dad's Colt 45 along with his reloads. The first time I saw her shoot it was like that. I chrono'd the ammo and recovered a bullet. They were 300 grain JRN that were running 1300 fps. I don't know the powder for the load but that was way hotter than I would run a 300 gr slug. I loaded a hundred of her spent brass with 250 gr RN lead heads that were just shy of 850 fps. It was a much more manageable load for her. I ended up teach my boss and her how to reload and how to work up a new load with a Rockchucker.
It is always good to see a difference of opinion. So many differing on #1. Should do this, that or the other thing. Since there are so many who look at her and can decide what works best, it would seem that the only thing we can agree on is that we disagree, proving that there is no one way to do anything. From a 15 second video we don't know; what or who was she drawing on, why was she drawing her weapon in the first place, how was she trained, what are her strengths and weaknesses - both physical and mental - , and what was the outcome of the scenario we watched. Without sufficient information, no practical comment on right and wrong (both right and wrong are only valid as historical commentary) has any more sway than any other. Does anyone think that they can fight off a meth addict who is wielding a large knife by using only one hand while carefully extracting their firearm and being able to take a kill shot? Really! Best defense is to withdraw if possible or to use your entire being to temporarily disable an attacker for even just several seconds so that you can focus on drawing a weapon without dropping it, train it on your attacker and hit him. Doubt that most commenters here could do the first but could possibly do the second. No point in drawing your weapon if you cannot complete the cycle of draw, aim, fire, and return to safe. Anything less should not be attempted. Use all other options before attempting to that for which you are truly least prepared.
There is an excellent video circulating showing a man on a motorcycle being hijacked by two gun toting thugs on another motorcycle. The comments here regarding #1 would have you all shooting the two would be thugs from your about to be hijacked motorcycle. But the almost victim followed the slow is smooth approach. He dumped the bike and ran away. Then moments later the first thief lay dead followed by the second one. The rider made a calculated decision to move to a more safe position, prepare his weapon and then came back and ended the fight to his advantage. Smart move.
#1: What Gabby Petino should have packed on her desert trip. She might have been able to defend herself.
#7: 11 year old me shortly after spewing out "Yeah yeah. I'm strong, I can handle a kick." Several lasting lessons were learned that day. Also, as much as I love cute girls in little shorts, there are definitely situations where you want to have yourself covered up a bit more.
Some asshole needs their ass kicked for 5, 7, and 9.

DeleteThose girls to re think their relationships. Looks to me like they are hanging around with stupid sadistic assholes.
Delete#3 was using what weapon?
ReplyDeleteLooks like a pump shottie w/ sights...
Delete#8- Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag?
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is she certainly handles the recoil well.
She definitely knows what she's doing.
She's done that before, I can tell.
DeleteAnd I could watch her doing it all day. Preferably from behind.

The Israelis Carry in Condition three. She did a good job getting it loaded and on target

Delete#1: Given how her draw stroke swept her torso, I can totally understand carrying without a round in the chamber.
DeleteIf it were me, I would probably work on holster placement and pistol orientation to eliminate the sweep, and then carry cocked and locked.
Look again, Sendarious. The muzzle never once crossed her body. It swung down as it came around, then up. Another moron who thinks to judge others, but out of ignorance and arrogance.

Chamber a round, holster up, quit worrying.
Also she draws across her body. Put the gun where it will not be pointed at you while you draw.

Condition three carry works GREAT... until your other hand is busy with something like keeping you from being stabbed to death, or injured from same.
DeleteCondition one or don't carry.
Girl in #5 almost died. That gun fired twice.

I liked your last sentence better when I didn't read the "of".
