  1. Reminds me of the time my hood latch failed and the hood blew up and back over my windshield as I was entering an underpass on a curve. My butt took a big chunk out of the seat.

    1. 1965 I was traveling home on leave by car with a couple guys that lived in my state. We had all agreed to the ride share about two weeks before leave started. One week before we were to get on the road, the owner of the car rear ended someone. Didn't do a lot of damage, but unknown to him and us the hood latch was compromised. Needless to say, middle of the night on the Indiana state thruway the hood latch released at 70 MPH. Ripped the whole hood off of the car and it landed in the middle of the road behind us. Somehow or other the radiator was also holed. We limped into the next town which luckily had a train station. We caught a train to Buffalo, then a bus to near where we all lived. The adventures of youth.

  2. turn on windshield wipers would have been my first move (along with off the gas to slowly slow). If that didn't work I'd move over.

  3. When I was in Frankfurt in the 70's I had the hood fly up in the middle of of the city. I had read in Popular Mechanics that if you hood flies up. Look out the Side window at the Stripe on the road and gradually slow down.

  6. My Home town.

I was playing on that freeway while it was under construction and looked up to see one of the larger secondary eruptions of St. Helens back in the day.

  7. Just out of Trier Germany this happened to me when I was running 160KMH/100mph. The wipers didn't clear it and I had my head out the window pulling over. I couldn't see shit until it was less than 30 mph. I was driving a 28 year old BMW 318 NA that topped out about 115mph that had 255KM on it when I got it. I was lucky I didn't hit anything. That car was a tank and is probably still running. It had a strong engine and was an automatic with few other options. The last two BMW's I have had have been crap. Electrical and cooling issues kept them in the shop. I will not own a BMW unless it is in warranty and will sell it just prior to the warranty going out.
