Greener Pastures – The Reason Behind S&W’s Tennessee Move

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- The decision to move a flagship manufacturer isn’t easy. It’s also not hard when legislators target industry for destruction.

That’s the case with Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc., which recently announced it will move its headquarters and a large portion of its manufacturing from Springfield, Mass., to Marysville, Tenn. The company has been rooted in western Massachusetts since it was founded in 1852. In 2023, it will open the doors to its new manufacturing facility and headquarters nearly 900 miles south.

That’s not an easy decision. The company will invest hundreds of millions to build a new production plant. It will consolidate warehousing from Missouri to the Tennessee location. That’s where Smith & Wesson will transition the production of semiautomatic pistols and rifles, while revolvers will continue to be produced in Massachusetts. That move will require transferring 750 jobs.

  2. I often wonder how many revos they would sell in one year if they got rid of the STUPID lock.
I bet the full production year would sell out before February.

  4. Nice to see another company sticking it up the ass of a state that doesn't value their contribution to state tax revenue. Let's just hope that the employees the company transfers to TN realize that they left MA because of the BS progressive politics.

  5. The Maryville area is a beautiful area, right at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, great riding if you're into motorcycles and sports cars. Cost of living is reasonable and easly accessible to Interstate 75, 81, 40, 59 and 24, 65 and 20 in other words to most everywhere in the country.

  7. Hmmmm......if I were to move a business, it would not be to one of the highest worker's comp rate states in the nation....jus' sayin'....used to bid jobs up there and had to add 15% to labor rates just to cover WC....then again, we don't know what kind of a deal they got from the local politicos....

  8. Maryville resident here.
We already have three large Amazon warehouses in the planning stage or under construction and that was a slimy deal concocted by our Commissioners. Bezos got a nice tax break for coming here. Residential housing is already tight with the influx of Cali-Washi-Oregoni refugees buying up property here. So, yeah, great to have a pro-2A business come to our town but, not sure where these people are going to live. If I understand correctly, S&W will bring a majority of their own people with them and hire a small percentage of locals.
