Shit, I'd have just put in new floors or cabinets or something

An 84-year-old man killed his real estate agent and then turned the gun on himself because he was upset over the home he’d just bought.

  1. I don't like crooks or swindlers. However, when someone buys a home sight unseen he is fifty percent of the problem. If not more. No way would I shell out a couple hundred thousand without seeing the product. The house I'm in now I looked at it three times before I shelled out a penny. I've owned about five homes and did the same with all of them. I knew exactly what I was paying for.

    1. Let's extend this -- always hire a building inspector -- and not one recommended by the real estate agent. The real estate agent, both the sellers and yours, work for the seller. They both only make money if there is a sale.

Same with the building inspector. The building inspector recommended by the real estate agent has more loyalty to the agent who sends him work on a regular basis than to you. Find one that is independent of the real estate agent.

  3. I sold my house in July sight unseen for exactly what I asked. Then I skeedaddled...

  4. If paying cash a lot of people waive the building inspector and take as is. That's what I do but I am the inspector. Fuck the bank and all their requirements. I sold a home and an inspector had pages of shit that did not meet criteria. I mean stupid shit. One failure was zone four on the sprinkler system didn't work. Well, that was good seeing as how there were only three zones. Lots a shit like that. The house was mint and the buyers waived the repairs. Yup, they were paying cash so they could do that. The inspector even found one rusty screw head. Zounds!

  6. I want to add in case I gave the wrong impression. I aint rich by any means buying houses for cash. Many years ago I started with not much more than a shack and fixed it up. Sold it when the market was right and bought a better shack. I did that four times. I put all the proceeds right back into a better shack every time. Now, my fifth shack, I have a pretty darn nice home and it's mine. I aint had a mortgage in years. To each his own. Also, with my present home with acreage. I have some cattle and get a nice tax break. I've only been here five months and more critters are in the future. Chickens highs on the list, Buff Orpington. Kaint live without chickens, I've always had them.
