The black bear dubbed the “Safeway Bear” was shot in early August in Alpine County near the Nevada border, after a family was unable to chase the bear away, the California Department of Fish and Game announced Thursday.

They've always had bear/garbage problems in Tahoe. I'm thinking this might be a case of learned behavior, taught by its mother when it was a cub and she was raiding cans.

DeleteShow up in AM, got a grabber stick, couple trash bags, and an orange vest. Told come back in the afternoon with full trash bags or youbdon't get your check.
Police complained it was a drain on their resources due to the crime wave that followed street cleanup crews.

ReplyDeleteThey tried to put people to work for the county, where my small village sits. They had to hire a supervisor, in order to make sure that the 6-8 people working didn't either cause damage to private property, or commit crimes, etc. Turns out, it just wasn't worth it.
ReplyDeletePretty much the same thing with trying to do the drug testing thing. I think that the ACLU stepped in and complained that it was discrimination, or something.
My wife's former boyfriend was an alcoholic. She went through the whole bit of thinking she could help change him, etc. But the bad thing is, since they decided that alcoholism is a disease, the government put him on disability, and in effect were paying for his booze.
I am on disability, due to chronic daily migraines, and a back that I broke at age 20. But this is after working over 35 years in a foundry, until I could no longer do that work anymore.
Don't teach them a job, teach them shame. Bring back the stigma of being a grifter, a layabout. Let them feel the full force of being shamed.

A friend of mine had kind of a shotgun house. One day a bear busted open the front door, ran down the hall and busted out the back door. He called the game warden. Warden showed up and found a dead bear laying on the front stoop. Warden all upset and gonna arrest the guy. My friend said, that son of a bitch ran though my house and I called you. After I called damn if he didn't come in the back door an ran for the front. I got kids, do what ya want but I'll be damned if I won't protect my family. The warden put away his ticket book. Another friend of mine came home to a busted door and his kitchen trashed. He went out and got his rifle out of the truck went back and in. He got to the living room which was torn to pieces and there sat a big ol bear ripping something to pieces. He shot it where it set. He too had a pissed off warden who he promptly told to fuck off.
