  2. Seems the only good, secure knot I can tie is in my work boots or tennis shoe laces.

    1. Many times even those fail for me, some laces are worse than others, and I tend to double knot my shoes. Still better than Velcro!

    1. When I need to use a hookless chain as a tow chain I use two half hitches on each end. After the pull the chain is easy to untie and away you go.

    2. A bowline (optionally with a bight) works better, never slips, always unties, even when wet. Ask any sailor.

    3. Agreed, a bowline is my go to for many things. You can double it up when using a strap and still untie it.

  10. Two half hitches, bowline, and clove hitch are my go-to knots

  11. First time I ever saw a rope with different colors at each end.

  12. But what if the tail end, the supposedly short tie end, needs to be 150 ft long? That's a lot of line pulling for the short tie. I'd just use 2 half itches and be done with it. That about all he's doing here anyway.

  13. It appears to be a variation of the slip knot. The clove hitch works well in all of those situations.

    1. I agree. Clove hitch with a half hitch back-up. Very useful knot but it will bind in certain situations.
