Its the Drunken Farmer act. Its a performance you'll see at airshows. It is impressive, even when you know it's an act. It used to by Kyle Franklin although I don't know if he does it anymore.
Looks like the flying farmer. Could make a cub fly diagonally, almost sideways. He could make a cub so stuff the designers said it couldn’t do. Used to see him at the flying circus in bealeton va. Good times.
No shite? You remember Bealton? A fav of mine as a teen growing up in Northern va. Open seat bi plane ride is one of best flight memories. Went out there at least 5 or 6 times, that was late 70s early 80s.
I forget the guy who does that show. He does some amazing things in that Piper Cub. State College, PA the home of the Piper Cub. Now I think all the parts are out of the Air Park in Georgetown, Delaware.
Truuust me,, there is someone in there. Watch the rudder. It's not gonna go full stop both ways without someone on the pedals. Nor is it gonna make the turn before it hits the trees. To turn, you bank and pull back on the stick. The propwash blowing back would not let slack controls change the plane's direction. How they didn't get the prop in the dirt is more than I can grasp. Had to be Close!
The plane looks like it's doing a pretty good job on its own. Why mess with it?
ReplyDeleteI wish we could see the beginning and the end of that one.
ReplyDeleteKiss that plane goodbye, comrade!
ReplyDeleteThat has got to be staged. No one can be that unstable on the stick and NOT hit anything in that small bowl or whatever they are in.
ReplyDeleteIf you'll look at the beginning of the video, there's nobody in the aircraft.
DeleteI think that someone is hidden in the cockpit working the controls.
DeleteNot buying it. Depending on trim it would climb or not, either way the aircraft would stay basically straight and level drifting in a slow turn.
DeleteThere was someone at the controls. The tight turn and yo-yo next to the ground ain’t happening. It would have ground looped

DeleteI saw this same act at an air show. Same type yellow plane, too.
DeleteThat's just sad. Pretty little plane, about to get destroyed.

Kinda like the song...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a variation of "the drunk guy that steals a plane" at plane shows.
ReplyDeleteno way that plane is flying itself.

ReplyDeleteI think the Cub is soloed from the rear seat so the pilot not being obvious is not a big deal.
ReplyDeleteRemote control, A full size RC plane
ReplyDeleteBingo!!

ReplyDeleteElevator motion *precedes* pitch motion.
ReplyDeleteEither backseat pilot or R/C.

ReplyDeleteIt takes a lot skill to fly that badly and live.
