Taxes, fees make up $1.18 per gallon of gas in California

With the price of gasoline setting record high prices in California, some are wondering where their money goes.

Taxes and fees make up a portion of the cost of the state’s sky high gas prices, which are also highest in the nation.

    * These taxes don't include federal excise fees.

And if you really want to get pissed off look up the definition of 'excise'.

  2. Those are only the direct taxes and fees. That gallon of gas is taxed from the moment it leaves the ground, every step of the way. A break down of those indirect taxes would be enlightening.

  3. If we eliminate all the taxes and taxes on taxes, I get the impression fuel would be a nickel a gallon.
