Sude, it's been 10 years since I lost my last dog...I still miss her. We get less injured by the memories, but they still hurt when we realize our loss
I have a big German Shepherd and I do that with him. You aught to hear us when the fire siren down the road goes off. My wife laughs at us, but sometimes she'll join in. To me it's great fun. (Who knows what the neighbors think.)
beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul....the video was especially moving. He was a very special pup...you were very blessed indeed to have so many years with him....and he with you. God is good.
I empathize with you and believe it's easier to get over, or at least accept the fact that a person is gone from your life, than it is to get over the loss of a loved dog. I lost "Fat Dog" back in about 77/78 and still think of him almost daily. No other dog I've ever had, or person, has affected me that way.
Sorry for your loss Dude. I know. I lost my beloved dog earlier this year and will never get over it. Sad as it may seem, dogs are better to us than 99.99999% people out there. Truly mans best friend.
It would be perfect if CGD arranged for that asshole dog Jack to show up. CGD laughing his ass off thinking "I'm still fucking with that fucker". I do love the CGD stories and I hope Jack earns a place at the table. Makes a boring shitty cardiac cripple day go by a little better.
It's tuff to lose a good dog, and that, there, is a good dog. It's been 63 weeks since I had to put down "Abbey-Normal". She, and my previous mutts, are the reason I strongly believe, "The more humans I meet, the more I like my Dog"....
My little Geoffrey (I didn't name him} is almost 15 & slowing down. Ornery little cuss operates at his speed & that's it. Gonna be a sad day coming. I like this blog. You're a dog man. Peace Brother, StBernardnot
Oh, good. I needed a good cry just now. Worse things get, the harder it is to get the tears out. They back up and start threatening to explode my brain. Charlie Goddammit was one of the first things that made me love your blog, and one of the things that made me sure it was pretty safe to love you.
“To call him a dog hardly seems to do him justice, though inasmuch as he had four legs, a tail, and barked, I admit he was, to all outward appearances. But to those who knew him well, he was a perfect gentleman.” --Hermione Gingold
Many years ago on AM radio, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band sang "Mr. Bojangles". His dog up and died and "after 20 years he still grieved". Being a teenager at the time, I did not understand those words very well, but I do today and consider myself fortunate to do so. I've been blessed by God to have had several dogs that elicit those sad and sweet memories of the companionship of such superior spiritual beings. Saying goodbye hurts and many of us will swear No More Dogs, and often genuinely mean it (at least at the time). But we're stuck, because we're Dog People, and when the time is right a dog selects us and that wonderful cycle continues.
Especially beware of a friend who says "Let's go visit a litter of pups!" Nobody "visits" a litter. When they put that six week old furball in your hands, you melt on the spot and end up putting a deposit down. I have that snapshot captioned "Do not EVER let anyone do this to you!"
Love the duet. I miss the only dog we ever owned, sophie. Hope you are doing well. Worried about the riots downtown if the Rittenhouse verdict goes the wrong way (ha ha).
I know how ya feel Bro-2 years too since Crockett died and I miss him every day.
ReplyDeleteI can relate Ken, peace and Love Brother.
ReplyDeleteHalfway thru this my pups Stubby and Cuddles both joined in tribute!
ReplyDeleteWe never forgot them. My cats live within me. And yes, I do cry occasionally.

It is hard to lose a good buddy, but you gave him a great life.
ReplyDeleteBest to you and yours.
What a dog! I know you miss him. I would too. A dog's love makes the world a better place. Ohio Guy
ReplyDeleteThat video made me laugh out loud.

The family that howls together stays together.
I've said it before:
ReplyDeleteif a man is lucky, at some point in his life he'll have The World's Greatest Dog.
RIP, Charlie.
I lost my black lab 2 weeks after Charlie’s death. I still see him around the house all the time.
ReplyDeletebeautiful tribute to a beautiful soul....the video was especially moving. He was a very special pup...you were very blessed indeed to have so many years with him....and he with you. God is good.
ReplyDeleteWe will all be reunited. I truly believe it.
ReplyDeleteAnd we miss your stories of how CGD messed with you and your wife Lisa. Somewhere, CGD is laughing out loud about those memories too.
ReplyDeleteI still look for piles of dogshit where he knew I'd be walking.
DeleteI still laugh about the land mines he would leave by your truck or the chicken coop.

ReplyDeleteThat's great that you have the YouTube videos to remember that egg sucking dog by.

Try to think of it this way: you are going to see Charlie again in the next life.
ReplyDeleteGood that you honor his memory and treasure the things that count in life.
ReplyDeleteNobody ever forgets a great dog. Hell, I remember every dog I ever had and I'm 75. Every one of them was a great dog.
ReplyDeleteI didn't need to tear up today, Kenny, goddamnit. I'd never seen that video before, it was great getting to see the two of you together.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching that video, Ken, and I full screened it on my 27" computer screen for full effect.

ReplyDeleteAmazing! He still looks great!
