NEW YORK - In the last couple of years or so, I've cut back on alcohol and become much more selective about what I drink. I'm not a snob — I'll have a PBR and rail shot now and then but I'm much more deliberate about it. So in curating this list of holiday-themed cocktail recipes, I chose ones that stood out for their creativity and fun. The fall-and-winter holiday season shouldn't be so stressful, should it?
And at my wife's insightful suggestion, I made sure none of these drinks contain pumpkin spice. (Apologies to the PSL and all those pumpkin beers but... enough already.) However, fans of sweet and spicy cocktails won't be disappointed by this list, which gives you three cold and three hot drinks offering plenty of complexity.

My tipple of choice is Rum or Tequila, neat. Mixed drinks involve vodka, various liqueurs, fruit juices and other mixers ran through a blender. The various styles of whiskey/whisky and I don't get along.
DeleteI gotcha, rum and I aren't on speaking terms and I've drank enough tequila to pay off the national debt of Mexico when I was younger. I do enjoy vodka, Absolute, but my go to is a bourbon, usually with a single ice cube, while I enjoy a cigar. I don't do it as often as I'd like these days though.

My favorite holiday drink is about two fingers deep in a glass, Pendleton rye with a single cube of ice.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful: 1 part each Grand Marnier and a decent brandy. Serve over a hot water bath.
Boulevardier: 1 part each Campari, Sweet Vermouth and a decent Bourbon (or 1.5 parts bourbon if you want). Garnish with an orange twist (or a maraschino cherry, but I prefer the orange twist, or no garnish at all).

ReplyDeleteI haven't drank for many a year but when I did it was beer or a shot. Never used a chaser. Back in the day, gimme a bottle a big mouth and a six pack a I don't care and I was good to go.
