How Alec Baldwin's single action army revolver fired

For legal reasons, Alec Baldwin is all over the place in his explanation of how the revolver that was in his care fired. Here's how those guns actually work and what likely happened.

VIDEO HERE  (6:25 minutes)

  1. It fired because his finger depressed the trigger.

    1. Exactly this. And, he had the muzzle pointed at a person.

Didn't verify the load status of a real firearm, no trigger control, no muzzle control.

This is criminal negligent stupid. He really ought to do a few years in lockup for this to contemplate his many mistakes.

    2. But he had to cock it first.

  2. Gee..A self righteous Hollywood actor trying to justify his incompetent behavior..never woulda thunk it!
Having handled several types of firearms.. I've never had one that self fired!

  3. Details.... He aimed at the cinematographer. He certainly thumbed the hammer and maybe had pressure on the trigger. If he had the revolver pointed in a safe direction, it would have been an "exciting" incident. Aimed as it was, she died.

    1. Enh, it might make sense that it was pointed at her, depending on what they were doing with the shot they were setting up. Not checking the cylinder and pulling the trigger - that's the stupid bit.

  4. My point exactly. AND if he touched the gun it should have immediately be checked to see if it was loaded - BY BALDWIN HIMSELF REGARDLESS OF WHAT ANYONE ELSE DID OR SAID!

  7. Baldwin may have been right if the half cock detent was warn enough that it didn’t engage when his thumb slipped off the hammer, in that case the armorer is sharing the liability in addition to live rounds in the gun if that was her fault. Still Baldwin broke two major rules of gun safety: he didn’t check that the gun was safe as in unloaded and he pointed it at some one he didn’t intend to shoot!

    1. All three detents? Exact clone of the Colt SAA, it used to be said the 4 clicks when drawing back the hammer (each click was the sound of the sear passing another detent in the hammer) spelled C-O-L-T.

    2. Or maybe he did intend to shoot someone.

    3. "thumb slipped off the hammer"-

I have owned many revolvers for many years and have never had that happen.
I'm not saying I'm perfect. I'm saying I know how revolvers work and generally don't have my head up my ass. I doubt Alec Baldwin can honestly claim either of those qualities, although being the arrogant SOB that he is he probably would anyway.

    4. Elmo, there's the difference. You know what you're doing.

These anti-gun assholes handling guns. Not only do they not know what they're doing but they resist instruction as if firearm instruction would contaminate them. Because they are anti-gun assholes.

If I was movie making, I would insist that everyone even looking at a firearm receive insruction with a passing grade from a NRA or equal certified instructor.

    5. Back in the old days the stars learned from the best, like Arvo Ojala and Bob Bowman. And some of the Stars paid attention and became great gun handlers themselves, like Sammy Davis Jr, Robert Culp, Peter Breck and even James Garner was a pretty good gun handler.

      It was a different time.

  8. He broke a bunch of rules and that gun will fire when the trigger is held down and you pull the hammer and release it. You could hold the trigger on one of those and fan the trigger and it would fire as fast as you could fan it.

He is a bozo. has been for decades we just all now know it.

  10. I'm not getting involved in whether or not the gun could have fired itself: it sure as hell didn't aim itself -and that's the whole point, isn't it?

  11. Friggin John Schneider has been hammering Douchenozzle Baldwin on his (John Schneider's) youtube channel. Hammering Baldwin so bad I'm surprised he (JS) hasn't had his channel shuttered.

And Schneider does an excellent job of showing how a responsible actor handles being handed a weapon. And talks about how a single-action pistol works.

Funny as shit. Yet there are bloggers out there who are supporting Mr. Baldwin.

  12. According to Black's Law Dictionary, the legal definition of negligence is “[t]he omission to do something which a reasonable man, guided by those considerations which ordinarily regulate the conduct of human affairs, would do. Or doing something which a prudent and reasonable man would not do.”

So, what was on display was negligent acts. Prudent men do NOT behave as he did. But for his act of negligence, Mrs. Hutchins would still be alive.

    30-2-3. Manslaughter (in New Mexico).

Manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice.

    A. Voluntary manslaughter consists of manslaughter committed upon a sudden quarrel or in the heat of passion.

Whoever commits voluntary manslaughter is guilty of a third degree felony resulting in the death of a human being.

    B. Involuntary manslaughter consists of manslaughter committed in the commission of an unlawful act not amounting to felony, or in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death in an unlawful manner or without due caution and circumspection.

Whoever commits involuntary manslaughter is guilty of a fourth degree felony.

So, Involuntary manslaughter, and he is found negligent in the civil case that will bury him is my guess. Look at his current pics... he's not looking well. My guess, some time in prison is coming his way.

Perhaps firearms safety will start entering the consciousness of the general leftoid public, as it appears that many out there don't understand or respect firearms to care about safe operation.

  13. It fired because the dumbass had his finger squeezing the trigger, the hammer was obviously cocked or being cocked, possibly being fanned. Being the dumbass he is he broke all the safety rules of gun handling and all the rules of any sort of legitimate film making company, although from what I understand it was his company or part owner and he was in charge so that throws the legitimate out the window.
Dumbass is a big mouth anti gun, pro illegal immigration and a fucking supporter of the communist party/agenda with donations and fundraisers so he'll never see the inside of a prison for the murder he committed. Hopefully the suit against him, his company and the industry will break them down, dry him up and he dies a bitter, broke old drunk asshole.
Fuck alec baldwin slo joe and kamel toe

  14. Everyone else has said it, but I need to repeat it.
Rule #1: Never point the muzzle at something you do not intend to destroy. There is a reason why that rule comes first.
"But you can't make movies if you *always* follow that rule!" They cry.
Bullshit. Like CGI is not good enough these days.
And maybe, just maybe, we have enough movies and TV shows with people getting turned inside-out by gunfire. Perhaps we might even like something that is a little more psychological (sorry Michael Bay) or thought-provoking. Too many stories rely on violence to fluff up a lack of story-telling.

  16. And the moral of the story is....don't accept a job as Cinematographer or Director on a Alex Baldwin produced movie. Even though some are dyin' to get in there!
