Edward Capehart O'Kelley

Edward Capehart O'Kelley (October 1, 1857 – January 13, 1904) was the man who murdered Robert Ford, who had killed the famous outlaw Jesse James to receive a bounty. He was the subject of a 1994 book by O'Kelley's great-great-niece.

  1. Back in the fifties a good friend of mine had a grandmother that lived in Missouri. The family claimed the grandma had hidden Jessie from a posse in her cellar. True or not I've no idea but it was a good family and I always believed them. Good to hear how Ford died. To me he was a piece of shit.

  2. Jesse James was a lad that killed many a man,
    He robbed the Glendale train,
He stole from the rich and he gave to the poor,
    He'd a hand and a heart and a brain.

Well it was Robert Ford, that dirty little coward,
    I wonder how he feels,
For he ate of Jesse's bread and he slept in Jesse's bed,
And he laid poor Jesse in his grave.

    (chorus)

Well Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, [now] they were brave,
Well that dirty little coward that shot Mr. [Mister] Howard,
He laid poor Jesse [Has laid Jesse James] in his grave.
