I say, "Maryland" to deliberately exclude the ruins of Baltimore, which would have as much trash but the train itself would have been parted out and there would be bodies scattered on the garbage.
Our roadsides are literally linear trash dumps in Montgomery, Prince Georges, Anne Arundel, Howard, Charles, and Baltimore Counties while Baltimore city can only aspire to that high standard, seeking elevation from its current, though long term status, as an open sewer.
The USA has become a member of the Third World through illegal immigration and our own failure to enforce standards amongst our own but there is a nuance: we still have a credit card, at least for a little while longer.

I'm going to guess the trains start there or end there because of the port facility - products have to get to market or businesses, including railroads, die. And that's what Democrats/Leftists want - until the state controls all.
The trains stop there because it is the entrance track to the LA rail yards, and the cars have to be sorted onto the appropriate tracks to be sent on or delivered. John in Indy
The Union Pacific has announced it may simply stop running trains through L.A. As for Baltimore; about 2 years ago I had a nice chat with a retired member of ... um ... what ever federal agency that oversees train lines. The B&O, CSX, the Feds, Maryland state govt. and the City of Baltimore had been working on a plan to get rid of a bottleneck in Baltimore. Major capital expenditure and an estimated 5-10 year schedule (10-20 in real time). B&O and CSX backed out 'cause they saw no reason to "invest in a war zone."
You wonder why your package was "delayed", for not showing up at all, good chance it was because of something like this. Ever wonder how many tons of freight for the nation goes through the LA/LB intermodal yards? It's a high enough number as to be almost unimaginable. In the hundreds of thousands of tons. Intermodal trains running for miles, feeding every single state in the union.
