NYC to set up gun checks at entry points as gun violence surges

NEW YORK - As New York City has seen many high-profile shootings, including five NYPD officers shot since the start of the new year, the mayor is coming up with a new plan to fight gun violence in NYC.

Mayor Eric Adams said that despite the NYPD taking around 6,000 guns off of the streets last year, new guns are arriving every day.

One solution that he laid out in an address on Monday afternoon was for city police to work with state law enforcement to set up spot checks at all entry points to the city like the Port Authority and other bus and train stations.

When questioned about the gun checks, Adams said he envisioned random checks where bags would be screened.

This is just as bad, if not worse, than that Stop & Frisk bullshit they were doing there for a while, and I don't want to hear any bullshit about how it worked wonders for reducing crime - a warrantless search is a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment.
Simply put: You don't have the Right to question, detain or search me simply because you suspect I'm exercising my Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

  4. It's not just about searching for guns or other weapons, or the older version of "stop & frisk". In our Constitutional Republic it is illegal to stop anyone without probable cause just because they think you "MIGHT" have something illegal or be a "potential" danger to society. If that is the case everyone is always guilty of anything they want to impose on you with zero evidence. Same as 1920-40's Stalinist Russia and the Nazi regime. IE: It's flat our full on communism, pure and simple.

  6. I remember what it was like in the aftermath of 9/11. Truck and car pull offs at all the tunnels and bridges. I never had to worry about it. I drove a car carrier and they always waved me through or around.

  7. This will probably follow the same script as past similar efforts. The regulation goes into effect, cops and DA's start creaming the upstanding citizens, gun organizations sue, appeal if they lose, and - once it starts getting close to the Supreme Court, the city and state back down and rescind the regulation. If you live in NYC, congratulations on your terrific voting record on mayors. If you're visiting NYC you deserve everything you get, for the same reason. It's a loser's play.

  9. Those of us around at 9/11 recall the uncertainty regarding follow-on attacks. I was traveling to Marine Corps Air Stations Cherry Point and Yuma then. Flew back from my mother's funeral at Arlington on September 9, 2001. Was kinda pointed then.

Would they try airplanes again? Unlikely because airports were locked down for a while, heavily guarded after that, and people would fight back, as has happened a few times since then when some chucklehead acted up.

But car bombs, an Islamist specialty, were a definite possibility. Okay, lock down entry points, put National Guard into airports and train and bus stations and ferry terminals.

But that can last only so long and under a declaration of emergency, maybe even martial law. A couple of weeks at best. Unless you live here in the Poobahness of Washington with the Grand Poobah Inslee and his unending emergency powers.

While I see the emergency nature of so many killings, the answers that will actually work would be too haaaarrrrd for the dhims running NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, and some other place to conceive of much less implement. Not to mention that the nature of the emergencies are very different.

  10. So taking up arms against The Constitution is fine? As long as the attackers are sued? And all the loyal Party members get paid? For years?

And Americans wonder why they won't be missed.
