Small revolvers tend to function more reliably than small autos when used within grappling distance—e specially when fired one handed with a less than perfect grip. It’s hard to beat a five-shot .38 like a J Frame Smith or Ruger LCR for this application. Selecting the right carry ammo to find the balance between effectiveness and user friendliness takes some thought.

used to use wadcutters when the kids where small in the house. they great target ammo that just happens to work well on assholes too. if you reload, get the hollow base ones and flip them so the huge hollow base is pointed up, not great for range work, but good for the house.
ReplyDeleteand I love my ruger lcr in 38 plus myself. just right coat pocket gun in winter.
another good thing about a wheel gun is when you go to court, it doesn't look like anything but self defense weapon. every little bit helps with the stupid DA in the country now.
better in court than a 1911 or sig sauer with a 15 round magazine .
Sent you a picture of mine.
ReplyDeleteYears ago I was plinking with the Police captain of my little burg. He carried a J-frame with wadcutters, and told me just what you are saying, that the wadcutter is better for the short barreled revolver.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing the same for several years now. I STILL hope I never have to find out how effective they are.
it is a handle to a door you never want to open. and the time in court is a nightmare that never seems to end. wish it never happen to me. even when you "win" and get to walk away, it is going to cost you a lot of money, over 7 grand in my case and people never look at you the same afterwards too.
DeleteCarry insurance is your friend. Especially insurance that will cover you in a civil suit if you live in an uncivilized state where the oerp or his family can sue you even though you were found innocent in criminal court.
DeleteBut they don't look at you in a casket ...
DeleteOne of the biggest marks on the plus side is revolvers don't leave spent brass behind. Depending on circumstances, could be important.
ReplyDeleteWhether you carry a revolver or semi-auto pistol, you should always wipe down your cartridges with a soft cloth and load them while wearing thin gloves. Do not give the Orcs and Orcettes with badges any help with figuring out who shot who. We live in bad times which are about to get much worse. Plan accordingly.
DeleteI have my S&W Model 65 with alternating 157gr Hydrashok and 160gr soft lead SWC. Both almost double in size when shot into milk jugs full of water.
ReplyDeleteall good points.
ReplyDeleteWadcutters are a blunt tip slug like piece of lead flying towards your target at high speed and will cause a lot of hurt when it makes contact

I'm a fan of 158gr wadcutters out of my Cobra. They're accurate enough out to seven yards and have enough punch to get the job done summer or winter.
