Due to the demand for Dalmatians after the Disney movie they were bred wrong. Lots of Dalmatians born deaf due to it. Many thought the were really cute like Labs or retrievers. Dalmatians are a hell of a good guard dog. They will bite yo ass big time if ya mess with them or don't belong on the property. They are a darn good dog for protection.
Good comment. Very few are the snuggly, lovey, family dogs the tv shows represent. And the firehouse dog was a good use because of their protection. I've been in practice long enough to see two remake versions of 101 Dalmatians come out and both times, we've seen a noticeable uptick in Dalmatian ownership. And it's not something I enjoy.
I dated the daughter of a NYC retired Fire Fighter back in the sixties. He told me they got a Dalmatian for the Fire House but it wasn't working out. It wouldn't listen. A firefighter said, gimme five minutes with that fucking dog. They did and 36 stitches later.....I've never forgot that story
As a kid in the 70's the neighbours had 2 dalmations. They kept chewing on fence boards to try and get into our yard. Once the hole was big enough they would push there head through and get stuck. Every day one would get stuck, they never chewed it bigger and for weeks neither was smart enough to not get stuck.

They are one human dogs. My brother always had one.
