Hot Springs County School District #1, in the small town of Thermopolis, shared photos of the sharpshooting session in a Feb. 2 Facebook post, and it quickly caught the attention of thousands. McClatchy News has obtained a screengrab of the Facebook post, which is no longer publicly available.
In the pictures, the children are seen aiming air rifles across the gym at a set of targets propped up against the bleachers with what appears to be plywood.

way back in the day, my high school had a shooting club and a small 50 foot indoor range.
ReplyDelete22lr where like 35-40 cents per box I think back then.
Yup. We had rifle club in my high school. This was in Glen Ellen, Illinois. I remember 50 cents a box.
DeleteHere is SW Michigan, trap shooting is becoming a popular, sanctioned sport in many high schools.
ReplyDeleteNY City has the same firearm activity for youngsters except it occurs outdoors, unsupervised and the targets move.
ReplyDeleteI grew up there. I learned lots of life skills that I am so very thankful for. Most communities in Wyoming in my day were very practical. Glad to hear they have not abandoned their youth. On a side note, Thermopolis used to have a hot spring there with a pretty awesome slide that was quite scary and long. I wonder if it is still there.
ReplyDeleteIf our country will get back to some basics like shooting, shop, and home economics we can turn the country around, assuming we close the border to the turd world.
ReplyDeleteBack in 1970, when I was in 6th grade, there was a 50ft. Rifle range under the elementary school. The local police educated us kids on 50 foot NRA target shooting with .22 bolt action target rifles with circle in circle sights, and I went all the way up to Bar 9. The rifle team would bring their rifles to their last class, unloaded of course, so they could all get on the bus to their competition afterwards. Things were a lot saner back then.
ReplyDeleteliberals believe that children should learn details of and explore every perverse sexual activity in order to have "safe sex". similarly they are taught about illegals drugs including how to prepare them and shoot them into veins. D.A.R.E. (for drug "safety")
ReplyDeleteyet they want children completely ignorant around firearms in order to be "safe".
I participated in the shooting team for my high school back in the mid 70s. Good times

Born at Warren AFB outside of Cheyenne in 1959, grew up in Cody and remember going through safety training at the local National Guard armory at around 8 yrs old or so.
ReplyDeleteI agree with others that I would rather see this as well as shop, and other suck classes before half the crap they are doing in most schools.
Doesn't take much to turn things around. all we as a society need do is Wake up. What we got gong on here is the country, being the Mastiff, being waged by the tail of the chihuahua.
ReplyDeleteWinner winner chicken dinner!!!!
DeleteSeriously folks. That old saw about a tireless minority? There are more of us normal peeps than these freakshows and weirdos, about 20:1, if not more. We were raised to be polite however, sonrather than confront someone behaving irrationality, we turn the cheek and go around the situation choosing to avoid the conflict.
Now the petulant temper-tantrum child from your youth has grown passed the meltdown in the grocery store aisle.. they pilot Navy Destroyers into oil tankers and coral reefs noe, crash airplanes on carriers, because we HAVE to have a vagina in the combat cockpit, because, because, reasons.
Nope, Mostly Grey nailed it, We The People are being led around by avery vocal minority of loosers and freaks. If we started pointing that out, things would change right quick. These people can't handle school-yard bullying, they never outgrew the sandbox at the playground. Imagine what they will do as adults when the grown ups tell them "No. Shut up and sit down."
Was in Cody last April at the Buffalo Bill center. Sign at the entrance said no visible firearms please check in your firearms at the security desk they will be returned when you leave. Spent 2 days exploring all 5 museums with my concealed carry piece. From Wisconsin to Wyoming I only had to worry about Minnesota.
