I review a video of myself as a Tomb Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

On this episode, I react to a video of myself as a Tomb Guard. It feels like a lifetime ago, but it was one of the most rewarding parts of my military career.

My Background: I am a former Special Forces SGM that started my career as an 11B or basic infantryman, and became a Special Forces 18B weapons specialist and served 9 combat rotations overseas. I served as a Sniper, Assaulter, JTAC, TSE expert, Free Fall jumpmaster and more.

I served in 3rd SFG, 10th SFG, USASOC, 19th SFG, and the CIA as a GRS officer protecting Case Officers overseas. I have a Bachelors degree in Homeland Security/Crisis Management and I appreciate you all tuning in!

I own Fieldcraft Survival LLC, in Heber City, Utah where we specialize in teaching civilians to be prepared for the worst case scenario. First Aid, Mindset, Fitness, Tactics, Mobility, and so much more.

  2. A couple of years ago, this guy promised to start a group of people like us but never did. You can probably find the video. He's all talk

    1. I don't know about him being all talk - retired Sergeant Major, Tomb Guard, Ranger Battalion..... he accomplished more by the time he was 40 than I could in 2 lifetimes.

I couldn't tell you if he started his group or not, he may just be keeping it out of public eye.

    2. plerot: Instead of bitching and moaning that someone did not do what they promised...why the heck did you not start the group yourself. It takes not effort to complain.

    3. pkerot, American Contingency.. look it up. Mike Glover is a stand up guy and did exactly what he said he was going to do, connect local folks of similar mindset with one another. Have met and talked with him a bit and know plenty of folks who have trained with him.

  4. This was very cool. I used to live in DC, and have seen this ceremony many, many times. I've even managed to be around for way too many funerals at Arlington, even by happenstance.

It's always cool to see someone as they've aged go back and comment on their service. You want to see the same thing? Go see "restropo" then see the followup - "Kandahar" (I think). After those dudes are back their perspective is illuminating.

  5. Good job, Mike. I've got a family member buried at Arlington.

  6. I do the civilian version of military honors with The Patriot Guard Riders in CT, MA, & RI. I have always been awed by the Tomb Guards and could never even qualify at 5'8" (actually lots of cool MOS' I qualified for by test, but not physically). As a PGR member, you could be asked to do almost anything at a funeral. Last September I did the "dignified transfer" of the cremated remains of an unclaimed veteran with no family. It was an extreme honor. So cool to have footage of you doing your evolutions.

  7. Only been there once, when they buried Omar Bradley. The “Old Guard”, 3rd ID made all of us proud! A good read on them is “Gardens in Stone”. I think they made on movie on it, but as usual, Hollywood fucked it up. Eod1sg Ret
