I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say drugs were involved

ANTIOCH, Calif. — A man who was trapped 15 feet (4.5 meters) underground for two days in a San Francisco Bay Area storm pipe the width of a large pizza was rescued in an effort that lasted hours and involved at least 50 firefighters, police officers and rescue personnel, officials said Monday.

    Wonder what the cost in tax dollars this entailed. I doubt it was worth the expense.

      Honestly, it's cheaper to drag him out dead or alive than dig the whole system up to remove his bones. Chances are no matter how much rain you get it wouldn't wash away his bones and that would be a major inconvenience for the fine citizens of whatever shithole town in California we're talking about.

    Drugs or no drugs, what a horrible situation.

    Starting about two years ago I have had recurrent nightmares of falling headfirst down a shaft just wide enough for me to fall in. My arms are lodged at my sides, I can't do a damn thing. I'm stuck. And the water table is right at my nose. Makes me shudder even to write this.

      I hear ya Rick. I've had similar nightmares (minus the water) which have woken me up. Imagine being trapped in a box with your arms lodged at your side and no oxygen...struggling to breath. The first thing I do when I awaken is pray to GOD this never happens.

      There was an episode of Dirty Jobs that featured Mike crawling through ancient sewer pipes under San Francisco, like a 100' down. Besides the zillions of roaches, pitch black and barely able to move, what scared the living fuck out of me was the thought that even a slight earthquake tremor and shit is gonna shift and you are fucked.

      Gives me the worst creeps to this day.
