Tennessee meth heads: "Here, hold my beer"

COLWYN BAY, Wales (WKRC) — A coroner report shows a personal trainer died of a caffeine overdose due to a measuring mistake.

Tom Mansfield, 29, had bought a 3.5 oz. bag of caffeine powder from British sports supplement company Blackburn Distributions.

  1. I've had too much coffee before. It was probably about 4 cups in a two hour period, and the feeling was uncomfortable. I can't imagine how 200 cups of coffee at one time would feel.

  3. When I worked offshore, I used to live on coffee.
I'd sometimes wake up in the middle of "the night", drink a quick cup of coffee, and then go back to sleep.
Ahh, to be young and bulletproof again...

  4. Yep, caffeine is classified GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the FDA. To ingest the fatal dose of 10 grams you would have to drink 125 cans of Red Bull or 200 regular coffees, which would be over 9 US gallons (200 x 6oz divided by 132oz). I get the jitters if I drink a Rockstar quickly and that's 160mg. Remember this story?

  5. I've watched enough Investigation Discovery shows to hope they'll at least do a little digging into his wife. This is just too similar to the dude who poisoned his wife with nicotine.

Also, if you're buying caffeine powder, you might have a problem.
