The Crowded Road to Kyiv

One of the oddest commentaries about the Russian invasion of Ukraine is the boilerplate reaction that “borders can’t change in modern Europe” or “this does not happen in the 21st century.”

But why in the world should the 21st century be exempt from the pathologies of the past 20 centuries? Are we smarter than the Romans? More innovative than the Florentines? Do we have more savvy leaders than Lincoln or Churchill? Are they more mellifluous than Demosthenes? Does anyone now remember that some 130,000 were slaughtered just 30 years ago in the former Yugoslavia, as NATO planes bombed Belgrade and nuclear America and Russia almost squared off?

  1. The one that got me before the invasion kicked off was the number of Demonrats all saying that "the territorial integrity of Ukraine should be defended". Them not recognizing or acknowledging the irony that they were saying the exact opposite about our southern border and when asked about that very thing, had no coherent answer.

  2. Why has no one been outraged over the Ukrainian neo-Nazi groups killing 10,000+ Russians in the Donbass over the last 5+years? 🤷‍♂️

    1. What about all the people being killed by Mexican cartel invaders here in the United States?
The Donbass is Ukraine territory. Russians who settled there have two choices, go back to Russia or assimilate and start acting like Ukrainians instead of the way the illegals we have here act.

  4. Lincoln? Fucking Lincoln? A "savvy leader"? GTFOH. VDH just lost me there. Lincoln was the worst leader this country EVER had, up to and including the current demented vegetable occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. And his competition is daunting. FDR, WW, Dubya, Dubya Jr., Jimmah, JFK, LBJ, the list is long, and still, Abe was far and away the worst. From here on, everything VDH publishes is suspect.

    1. I thought part of lincoln's plan was to send the slaves back to where they came from. But that plan died early.

    2. That was A plan, among others. The thing is, Lincoln could have bought every single slave in the country using FEDGOV money, and sent them where he wanted, also on the FEDGOV dime, and it still would have been less costly than his War of N. Aggression, by any measure. If those communist cocksuckers wanted to take down a statue, the Lincoln memorial should have been first. He was a Nazi before Nazis were popular, if you look at his multiple violation of the constitution, the death camps for Confederate soldiers. The majority of Rebel soldiers did not own slaves.
