The Cuban Missile Crisis Explained In 20 Minutes

The Cuban Missile Crisis is the closest the world has ever come to nuclear apocalypse. An ever-escalating arms race had led to the deployment of Soviet missiles in Cuba, which were now prepped and ready to fire on Washington, New York, and almost the entire Eastern Seaboard. The defining event of the Cold War, it would see the world’s leading superpowers fight in a dangerous battle for nuclear superiority just 90 miles from the American coast. For 13 days in October 1962, American President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev would engage in a battle of wills, where one wrong move could lead to global destruction. Time was ticking, and neither side knew how events were about to unfold.

  1. I would love to see Putin put nukes back in Cuba. See what diaper boy does then.

    1. Diaper boi isn't conscience for 30 minutes out of any given day. Point made, but it's still a stupid comment. I remember Oct 62 very well, had a ringside seat living on a SAC bomber base. Sky was black with oily smoke from the j57s when they launched every operable 52 and 135. Nobody with a sound mind wants this insane scenario to play out again.

    2. Indeed it was scary. I lived across the Bay from MacDill. Father's of several classmates were restricted to base in case of alert increasing an already high notch. CAP or whatever were flying all hours of day-night. One night stringing wire on an antennae tower for a Ham radio rig, a low flying fast mover nearly scared the s**t out of me. Came off the tower faster than I went up!

  2. It wasn't just 90 miles. Russia was playing tit for tat demanding the US pull it's plans to put nukes in Turkey. Both sides blinked.

    1. Yep... The media sounded like JFK made russia pull the missiles out of cuba. But they failed to mention the US pulling our missiles out of turkey.

  3. Every story I read about this fails to mention that Castro requested these, AFTER NATO?, .mil? put nukes into Turkey, and apparently Italy, prior to this. Defensive only, of course. I didn't even hear about this until 20 years after the October event.

And let's not forget Bay of Pigs dance party(April '61).

They play this like it was pure unprovoked Soviet aggression.

    Ha. Pull the other one.

    1. If the democrat president and congress would have done their duty and defended freedom the missile crisis would have been a mute point. Not to mention the added benefit of great cigars.

  4. Go watch 'The Courier'. Came out last year, available at several outlets. For those still stupid enough to think this was just the USSR at that time. Now, understand that it's the same fucking thing right now, that we've put nukes/globohomo/pedophile central and a huge amount of corruption in Ukraine, and Russia is pissed. Honestly, I hope someone doesn't blink and we burn this fucker to the ground. All of it. Let some other species take over this fucking mess when the half-life is low enough to support some type of life.

    1. Any moron that thinks any type of nuclear use is acceptable needs to do some serious research. Start with:
t 1/2 for U238 and PU239. Stop listening to the total bullshit on the broadcast news. Stop listening to anything coming out of our government from the district of criminals, it's all crap. BTW, I can't believe my brain fart misspelling "conscious" above.
