This Today Show Segment on Gas-Saving Tips in a Ford Mustang Mach-E Is Painful

Gas prices are high right now, if you haven't noticed, and accompanying that extra pain at the pump are individuals and news organizations alike giving people tips on how to save fuel. Indeed, the Today Show came up with just a segment, embedded below, that's been airing on television lately doing just that. However, there's a small problem with it. The car they use to demonstrate these gasoline-saving tips doesn't burn any gasoline because it's an electric Ford Mustang Mach-E.

  1. Hmm. Are you trying to say it was a commercial for a Ford Mustang Mach-E or that they are stupid? Or both?

  2. "Keep that weight out of the trunk!"

How many people realize that the Mach e battery weighs over HALF A TON?
That 98.8Kw/hr battery is equivalent to about 2.93 gallons of gasoline which weighs in at about 18.5lbs. The car also failed the Moose Test due to its bulk and weight!
We used to call pigs like that lead sleds!
Today's elecric cars are just fancy Tow Motors!

  4. I'm old enough to remember when mechanics and engineers told us that the worst wear on your engine was starting it. Starting and stopping are harder on your engine than just letting it idle. So I save 50 cents of gas over the course of a day but add a dozen stops and starts? How does that pay off long term in engine life and maintenance costs? And yes I know that the old advice was primarily due to the engine being cold and the oil drained to the crankcase, but still.

And I've replaced enough starters in my life to know they don't last forever. So hell, let's add a couple starter replacements over the life of the car to that tally and see if the gas savings is worth it. Dang.

  6. Electric cars work fine, unless it is too cold or too hot.
