Wait - Long Islanders have guns?

Americans have expressed sympathy for Ukrainian amid the Russian invasion. Bars and restaurants have stopped serving Russian vodka, up to 3,000 Americans have joined the fight overseas, and now a Nassau County politician announced a gun collection drive to resupply Ukrainian Armed Forces with small arms.

GOP County Executive Bruce Blakeman announced the gun drive on Thursday and wants Long Islanders to donate their weapons.

  1. Oh how CLEVER! No one I know would ever turn over their guns for a halfwitted plan like that.

  2. Remember what happened to all those shotguns and rifles we loaned to the Brits in WWII with a solemn promise that they'd all be returned to their owners after hostilities ceased.

    1. This is what I was going to say as well.
Not to mention our Gov has "detroyed" enough captured arms to outfit Ukraine and then some.

  3. The only instance that I know of was an old acquaintance, dead now, who collected WWI era machine guns pre-Wwii.
The Army borrowed two as defense for the Nashville, Tenn airport, as they had none.
He got them back after the War with new anti-aircraft sights, mounts, and covers, and a thank you letter from the local General.

  5. Talk about a hair-brained plan this is it. I expect Gavin Newsom will be on TV tonight endorsing it and wanting to help by expediting shipment of ARs owned by law abiding California citizens to help the people of Ukraine. How very compassionate of him.

  6. I have a couple of old S&W break open revolvers they can have. I was saving them for a buyback, maybe get me a few dollars for them but they don't do that around here, but their welcome to them.

  8. Honey Trap. After you turn over your weapons, the NY State and/or local police will come knocking to arrest you for unregistered firearms in possession.

  9. Why doesn't the mayor donate those items from police stock? It's not like they're using them to fight crime.

  10. We did this during the bad days of 1940. We sent shiploads of private guns to England because they had gotten rid of private guns. And none of those guns came back like they were supposed to. War ended and England siezed them and melted them down, what little hadn't been melted down during the war.

Never give up your guns, never ever ever.

  11. They just want you to hand 'em over any reason will do. Does anyone thing any of the guns collected will go anywhere? They will find a reason to melt them down .
