Wall Street Is Quietly Trading For The Return Of Russia

For holders of Russian equities, the past week has been nothing short of a surreal, modern-day version of Dante's 10th circle of hell, where in the span of just a few days virtually all Russian stocks have seen their value wiped out as a result of a barrage of western sanctions that have disconnected Russian equities from global capital markets and money flows, nowhere more visibly than in the stock of Russian Novatek PJSC, Russia's second-largest natural gas producer and the world's seventh-largest publicly traded company by natural gas production volume, which collapsed from $215 on Feb 16, to 65 cents a few days later.

  1. And yet the small guy is blocked from trading in most russian stocks. I cannot buy them in my TD Amertirade account right now.

  2. BUY! BUY! BUY! I'm willing to bet this mess will be resolved w/i two weeks or less. Oligarchs in RUS are watching their piggy banks empty. So called news media won't bring up UKR in the background was just as corrupt and those boys are watching their territory get trashed. Lot of people outside the two countries are losing money (the Bidens, anyone?) from UKR being offline. RUS military upper ranks had a sweet deal for their bank accounts, until they had to perform.
Players in the shadows are going to pull the plug on this mess.

    1. $215 to 65 cents? Watch who winds up owning a shitload of it, before it goes back up again.

And we dirt people aren't allowed.

Only the priviledged get to feed at the trough.

      Sorry, I'm grumpy tonight....

  4. Carlin was right. it's a big club, and we ain't in it.

there is just as much money to be made from tearing a thing down as there is in building it up. maybe more. and it's easier.

  5. It appears that POTUS has blocked "the little guy" (other than Hunter) from trading in any Russian equity - as if this action will do anything to stop/slow down the "war"
Meanwhile I'd appreciate if someone would let me know just who's been shorting the Russian equities these passt two weeks: Chuck Schumer? Nancy Pelosi? Diane Feinstein?
In addition to which, please point me to that section of the U.S. Constitution that allows Executive Actions to take the place of Congressional actions

  6. Sort of makes me wonder how many U.S. politicians and other 'uber' rich are cashing into this scheme too. The temptation for those who can must be pretty strong.

  7. Yes. Fuel And fertiliser prices going through the roof. Smart guys shorting. World shortage of fuel and the Green nations starting to have their doubts about solar panels and windmills sourced from China.
    As Homer would say "Duh?"
