World Bank's Malpass warns against hoarding of food or gasoline

WASHINGTON, March 14 (Reuters) - World Bank President David Malpass on Monday warned people and businesses against hoarding food and gasoline despite the surge in prices sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and massive sanctions imposed on Moscow.

Malpass told a virtual event hosted by the Washington Post newspaper the sanctions would have a bigger impact on global economic output than the war itself. But he said that based on current assessments, he does not anticipate the crisis ending the global recovery and reducing global GDP.

  1. Picked up some chicken today. Chicken thighs with the 20th sell-by date is $0.99/lb. The same chicken in the same display case with the 22nd sell-by date is $1.39/lb. 40% increase, BAM.

Same all through the grocery. But OK Fearless Leader, we won't hoard, promise.

    1. Indeed. Fuck him sideways.

I'll carry on as usual feeding my family and whatnot. I don't need a pretend dick tater to try to convince me otherwise.

  5. In the past month I've probably bought, vacuum sealed and froze at least 100 pounds of steak, chicken breasts, and ground round. Probably not done yet. Thinking about freezing eggs now...

    1. Water glass the eggs. One ounce hydrated lime per quart of water. Submerge eggs in the mixture and the eggs will keep for 18 months. The yolks will become very soft but still perfectly good for cooking and baking.

  7. I like when they warn against doing something. It's a sure sign you should be doing it.

  9. Seen elsewhere - if you are buying up stuff, it keeps this (censor/deleted) from being able to increase his own hoard in his new set of warehouses.

  10. I’ve been buying canned foods like Campbell soup when it’s on sale. I have maybe 100 cans. I can survive a solid month.

    1. Watch out for the sodium content of Campbell's, might be better off with other brands.

  11. I for one don't give a shit about global GDP and sure as hell am not listening to a banker dick about what not to do. I bet that fucker has a house full of gas and food but doesn't want anyone to have it. Yeah, sort of like gun control where the anti gunners have guns but don't want anyone else to have them.

  12. First rule of prepping, folks. Don't talk about prepping.

Yeah, I know where we are (knuckledraggin). But it's late in the game.

And why would a dude from the IMF have any say in this anyway?

    Rusty chainsaws'n all that.

  13. Just a friendly reminder that any and all shortages related to oil are completely arbitrary and fake and are created by the oil producers or those who control them. For example, Biden's handlers could very easily be encouraging American producers to ramp up production instead of begging various shit tier countries around the world for their oil, but instead they are hell bent on crushing the economy.
