#8 I've had a fine electric guitar since I paid about $600 for it in 1966. It has never been broken, the neck has never been off and the truss rod has never needed adjustment. It is either in my hands or in the case. Not a "gig bag", a case. It's a Mosrite Combo model if anyone is interested.
When I was playing in a band, I played mostly saxophones, but also some guitar. The same thing happened to my acoustic Yamaha guitar, done when I was babysitting, a weekend I was not gigging, and had my kids, plus a couple of my siblings, one of whom broke my guitar. It was too expensive to bother fixing, so I just bought a new guitar. Perhaps 20 years ago, I was playing once a week with a few neighbors for fun. One of the guys had a 1956 Red Starburst Les Paul plus the original Les Paul amp, that he bought brand new in 1956. I got onto an off shift and had to quit playing with them, and both of them have died, and I have not been in touch with the rest of the group in ages. I sold all of my saxophones, both tenors and my alto. My wife's nephew bought my guitar, and put a pickup in it, and plays in gigs on occasions today. The only instrument I have today is a pretty nice Yamaha acoustic guitar, that I keep just so I can still play music of some type. As for the 1956 Les Paul compo, I am not sure what happened to it, but I made sure that the guy that had it knew just how really special it was, and not to let it go for cheap. All of the people I played with were much older than I and only a keyboard player had ever played in a band. It was actually a heck of a lot of fun, we played hits of the 40s- 60, Frank Sinatra type, to the Ames brothers, etc.
