Taryl Fixes All is another great resource. Youtube vids helped me take my Grandad's 'sitting in the elements for 8 years' mower from barely turning over, blown head gasket, not getting gas, leaking oil, bent rods and not charging battery to purring like a kitten. It's not something I want to do again, but it's hard to beat a $250 48" riding mower.
The internet is a beautiful thing when you take the time to learn and fix something yourself. Diagnostics was by far the most frustrating part.
Perfect timing for me actually, I have had two little John Deere riding mowers gifted to me in the last month and neither one of them ran. I even subscribed to her channel. Thanks Kenny!
I've been watching her for about a year. She's my go-to for small engine problems. Be sure to check out Steve's Small Engine Saloon on youtube for tips and tricks on chainsaws and other small engine yard tools.
I thought she was pretty good. She got to the point. Most of the those videos the assholes want to talk and posture and not show you a damn thing. 90% of the video is about, aint I just so cute and very cool?
It's the same for any infernal combustion eng. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Ifn they ain't got no sparky, no gasey, no compression, they ain't gonna work. Simple trouble shooting anyone can do can confirm any and all of the above. Usually the lack of sparky is from a broken wire or the soft keyway on the flywheel being sheared cause you hit a rock or a stump (ya dumbass, they are for mowing grass, not rocks) and threw the timing off, hence no sparky. And then they invented everything being controlled by a computer so that throws theory & physics out the door, cause puters don't operate by theory or physics, they operate on majik.

ReplyDeleteI've found that the folks at www.lawnmowerforum.com are amazing. Been a member for many years and they'll help you diagnose pretty much anything.
