America’s Blue-Red Divide Is About to Get Starker
The draft Supreme Court opinion overturning the constitutional right to abortion presents a major setback for reproductive freedom in America and offers a potential jolt to the upcoming midterm elections. But it also illuminates another, deeper phenomenon in American politics: the urgency and ambition of the Republican drive to lock into law the cultural priorities of its preponderantly white, Christian, and older electoral coalition at a moment of rapid demographic change.

there is no constitutional right to abort
ReplyDeleteQuite the opposite in fact. The Declaration of Independence says you have a *right* to life. Too bad the Supreme Court is busy playing games about 5 rungs up the ladder. Someone really needs to kick it out from under them.
DeleteIt's the Atlantic, so no surprise here.
DeleteSynopsis: "OMFG! OMFG! They're gonna make abortions illegal! OMFG! OMFG! What will be next? A ban on interracial marriage? A ban on race riots? OMFG!"
It goes on like this for a while.

hey Kenny;
ReplyDeleteI read the article from the Atlantic, What an article pandering to the blue side of the aisle, blaming Trump and the Electoral college and saying that the Progressives are on the right side of this and the "bigots" and "Regressives" are the ones fighting progress. I suppose it is a good snapshot to the mindset of the liberal left I suppose.
Ah yes, The Atlantic. A refreshing dose of leftist claptrap.

I musta missed the explicit wording in the Constitution making this a “constitutional right.” OH! Look! It isn't in there. Geez, I wonder how that happened?
ReplyDeleteAbortion is murder, not a right. But have you ever read the 9th Amendment? It should be an issue for the states, since the Feds are given no authority to regulate medicine.
DeleteA good post, but I couldn't get through it. Written by a journalist whose experience seems to be NYC, DC and college classes. Christians are bad, it's all Trump's fault. The writer says "culture, not class" is the picture of politics today, but his cultural living space does not have room for people of a lesser class. So, he is wrong.
ReplyDeleteGonna get real messy....
ReplyDeleteAs a white, conservative, Christian male born in 1960, I sort of am getting tired of the left telling me just how racist and close minded I am. I know that I have my own problems and try to deal with them. But I also know that I try my best to be fair to everyone.
ReplyDeleteI understand that if someone jumps out of the dark while I am walking down the street after dark, I would be more concerned if they were black than if they were white. That is my own bigotry, and I try to not allow it to rule me. But I also try not being out and walking down the street after dark, no matter who might jump out of the dark. Criminals come in all colors of the rainbow.
I don't want to turn the clock back to the days when I was young, because we have so much today that is better. But I won't let the left take my freedom as easily today as they did yesterday, and hopefully next year, it will be even harder. The left claims that they are "woke". I say it is time that the right get woke, to the things that the left is doing, because if we don't do something about it and fast, it will be too late.
Go read Unz dot com in race and crime. Or just trust your gut. Or realize that a cliché became that way because it was the lived experience of millions of people over centuries of time.
DeleteIf this does get overturned then its back to each state to decide on the issue of abortion. I would like to see more of this federal overreach withdrawn and given back to the Individual States where it belongs. Abortion will never go away, a way will be found if one wants one.

Came to a fast halt at the first sentence. Glad some of the others could get through the piece, but no surprises. And I agree: this looks to get messy.

ReplyDeletePlanned Parenthood gets Fed funding (!) and in turn supports Dem Congressmen's reelections. Planned Parenthood supplied the fetal tissue (aborted live, by the way) to the pharm companies that created the jab. The US Government, Planned Parenthood, (likely additional abortion providers), Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson, the CDC, and WHO conspired to profit from the plandemic and the murder of babies. Project Veritas's, David Daleiden caught PP on tape marketing baby organs and aborted live baby's body parts.
Only worthwhile content from The Atlantic are old articles written by William Langewiesche. And those are outstanding.
ReplyDeleteIf the publishers were honest, they would point out that the left has been anti-Roe v. Wade for a while now -- and the left wants it overturned. Why? While touted as an abortion right, Roe v. Wade is actually about medical privacy.
ReplyDeleteAt one point, Obamacare had 15 different federal agencies creating databases of every American's medical history -- a clear violation of the constitution in light of Roe v. Wade.
Biden's vaccine mandate -- not only illegal form a Nuremberg perspective -- but also a clear violation of medical privacy. The left actively wants to overturn Roe v. Wade and then turn around and enshrine the right to kill the unborn into federal law.
Of course, given that Conservative and libertarian (small L) lawyers never used Roe v. Wade to stop Obamacare or vaccine mandates is rather depressing. My only assumption is that they couldn't use it as the basis against Obamacare and vaccine mandates and then turn around and try to overturn it.
True reproductive freedom is choice to get pregnant, choice to have a baby. China did not allow reproductive freedom.
ReplyDeleteThe Atlantic is redefining terms towards the aim of normalizing abdominal behavior.
I only have one question.: Does the person waxing on about "my body, my choice " support forced vaccination?
ReplyDeleteYou mean to tell me people in this country might not be allowed to kill their offspring....oh no!....
