California Gas Tax Increase Likely As State Leaders Still Debate How To Relieve Drivers

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Get ready to pay even more for gas this summer. California lawmakers are on track to miss a deadline Sunday to halt the next increase on the gas tax which starts July 1.

The average price for regular is around $5.71 in California and $5.56 in Sacramento, according to AAA.

Hey California politicians, here's a tip if you want to relieve the pain at the pump.
Don't increase gas taxes and lower or suspend the ones you already have. Your taxes are high enough that suspending them for a few months would make a huge difference.

  1. I paid $4.19 at an out of the way Mobil last Sat. Prices today range from $3.91 to $4.45 at the 30 or so local stations in my city, with the average ~$4.15 today according to Gas Buddy..

  2. So cutting spending, drastically eliminating free-shit from the gummit, and doing away with unnecessary government agencies are off the table?

  3. Here in Hampton Roads VA, it's 3.90 on average.

  4. It amazes me at these politicians ability to completely dismiss totally obvious correlation.

    1. Give the folks under the Golden Dome a break. They're just trying to add to the State's $68 billion surplus, so they have more money to spend on the underprivileged and underserved, not to mention our new voters that are just now coming across the border.

  6. They are going run into the same issues as the tobacco tax trap. They pile on the taxes under the guise of "this is bad, we need to suppress it", but then they get addicted to all the money that starts rolling in cause people still gotta buy it. If everyone stopped buying gas for a week or two, the state budget would collapse.
