Illinois bans 'ghost guns'

CHICAGO - The sale and possession of "ghost guns" in Illinois became illegal Wednesday after Gov.J.B. Pritzker signed a bill aimed at eliminating the unserialized firearms.

Ghost guns are homemade weapons that are untraceable and don't need a background check to be acquired. They can be purchased online and can be assembled in just 15 minutes.

'can be assembled in 15 minutes.....'
My ass. Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes just to get that damned roll pin for the bolt release started or to find that front takedown pin detente that launched itself across the room.
Assembling an AR with a 100% lower and an upper that's already finished takes me about an hour if I take my sweet time.
Add in the time to mill out an 80% lower on a CNC machine and drill your holes using a jig and you're looking at maybe another hour.
I don't know anybody with a CNC machine in their garage.

  2. I take my time, and it generally takes me about 3-4 hours to assemble one. Not to mention chasing down the springs that pop out and who knows where they go.

    1. Mine took 3-4 times as long, but it was my first and I was being ultra-careful. It also wasn't standard in some watys (Aero Precision M4E enhanced upper and lower, and proprietary barrel nut and hanguard) and my book didn't cover that other differences (improvements, for sure). I could do it in 4-6 hours now, I'm sure.

  5. They totally miss the intent of ghost guns. How the hell are they going to know that you have one unless they're getting cooperation from parts sellers in identifying when the parts have been purchased or is this yet another violation of the Constitution by the aaa tee eff?

IL and Chicongo already have some of the most stringent gun laws in the country. Yet every week Chicongoans continue to turn their streets into shooting ranges. Which begs the question: if they already have tough gun laws, why do they need more laws and where are the guns coming from?

What they really need to do is fire all of the DA's and judges that are mollycoddling the perp's and get some DA's that are going to, god forbid, follow and enforce the law.

Course then they'll have to increase the tax rate further to build a crap ton of new jails and line their pockets with the skim from construction budgets.

    1. Your ex turns you in, or if you're arrested for something else and a search turns it up, then they've got another charge to throw at you. Otherwise, you're right, it's almost meaningless.

    2. Soros DAs, he bought & paid them. To release criminals back onto the streets to create anarchy.

All by design, Cloward-Piven. Then they tell us the solution they are going to implement (will include ripping up the bill of rights)

  6. An 80% lower takes time to finish. I timed it, and I have done a fair few of them:
Place the lower in the Jig: 5 minutes.
Drill the index hole on a drill press: 20 minutes
It takes at least 5 passes with the mill: 60 minutes.
Remove from jig, clean lower: 15 minutes
Dry the now clean lower: 10 minutes
Total machine time: 1 hour, 50 minutes
Install lower parts kit: 20 minutes (plus the time spend finding the spring for the detent for the stupid hinge pin when it flies out)
Buffer tube, recoil spring, and stock: 10 minutes
Assemble the upper: Another 45 minutes, if you have a stripped upper
Total time: about three hours, and that is BEST case.

    1. Good to know. I'll send the ATF over to your house and maybe they'll see if you can improve your time.

  7. 13-year old kid in Georgia was not only making them, he was also selling them. Ended up shooting and killing his 14-year old sister after a sale gone bad. Sad.

  8. Do we hold our breath waiting for news stories on arrests of violators? Politicians: Well, we passed a law.
