That’s a broad category, according to one local police chief who said the approval process could get them into trouble in the line of duty.

And the people questioning this new law are the very same ones that think citizens shouldn't be allowed to own 'weapons of war' - you know, AR-15s and AKs.
Cops shouldn't carry anything that I can't freely own.
ReplyDeleteFor that matter, considering that when the Constitution was written individuals could own cannons, I should be able to freely own any weapon up to and including mobile artillery.
All of this "let's equip local law enforcement with surplus military gear" happened because of one incident, ONE, where the police were outgunned and out armored by two criminal bank robbers in the 90's in LA.
ReplyDeleteYou know, the LA in Califruitopia that the city and county, not to mention the state, has had onerous gun laws on the books since dirt was invented. Here it is 30 or so years later and every police dept. from big city squads to one man shops in Podunk, all have M-16's or M-4's and military grade body armor in the trunks of their duty cars. Then there's the state patrol's in every state that are likewise equipped. Add in the FBI, CIA, Homeland, Border Patrol(BP SHOULD have those kinds of weapons and armor IMHO, they just aren't permitted to use the weapons), the EDU Dept SWAT Team(WTF is a Fed.Gov EDU Dept doing with a SWAT Team).
Why? Well "every officer should be able to go home safely to their family at the end of their shift."
All of this equipment hasn't prevented one civilian gun crime nor one ambush of an officer. However, it has accounted for a large and growing number of family pets being killed for no reason.
Who pushed this up-armor/weapons deployment to local cop shops? The MIC, as usual. Everything's about the money.

And those BoA robbers were put down by a skilled sniper in the end. It really was a once in a lifetime event.
DeleteSo now we have MRAPs all over the place, and clowns donning heavy body armor, spending 30 minutes getting dressed up to go out on a call, thinking they're operators. Even getting laughed at to their faces by their own doesn't phase them.
Just imagine buying a bottle of water?
ReplyDeleteChief's worried the governing body will discover his stash of 106mm recoilless rifles, claymores and M72 LAWs.
ReplyDeleteThe nearest town to my house, Greenbrier, TN, pop. 7k or so, has a fucking MRAP. Pissed me off when I saw it, & still does. As samoore, said, they shouldn't be able to own a damned thing I can't. They're civilians, too.

Civilians should own EVERYTHING the cops have. Or have the ability if they desire…
ReplyDeleteSelect Fire to Flashbangs to MRAPS.
YOUR CIVILIANS and your JOB isn’t a TOUR!! It’s a day at the office like any other schmuck.
I’ve heard the crap, my ol’man was a cop and my family is littered with them.
From MIL to NYPD to Small town USA.
THEY/You are Not fooling me.
Ya’ll believe your own BS too much.
Or….You really do Look down on us a Dirt People.
Choose…Wisely
...A well regulated militia...Yup, that'd be you and me, well trained in the use of everything available. We're the first line of defense. If ol' Officer Tugnuts wants to carry something fancy too, well I suppose we can let him borrow something from our armory as walkin' around protection. Best he demonstrate proficiency first, though.
ReplyDeleteBefore the Afganistan giveaway, the military industrial complex had to find a way to dispose of thier inventory in order to get more guvment money. Now that Afganistan and Ukraine has dwindled those inventories, its probably a little harder to come by.
