They really don't want my money, do they?

The National Rifle Association’s board of directors voted Monday to re-elect longtime CEO Wayne LaPierre, signaling that the gun rights group isn’t changing direction despite a rise in mass shootings and its own internal turmoil.

LaPierre has been in charge of the NRA’s day-to-day operations since 1991 and has shaped its no-compromise approach to lobbying against gun control, even after New York’s attorney general accused him of using the group as his “personal piggy bank.”

    2. Because the NRA is still the largest provider of firearms training in the US. Want a concealed carry class for a permit? Probably the instructor is NRA trained and insured.

In 2nd unfriendly states where you even need a permit to own, most of the approved courses you have to take come from the NRA.

The bottom line is that if you want to kill the gun culture, kill the NRA. Then the insurance will not be there, instructor training will dry up and all the approved courses will no longer be available.

I'm sure that the legislatures will work overtime to ensure that suitable replacements are promptly approved and made available. And of course, all the woke insurance companies will be lining up to give instructors liability coverage - NOT!

Instructors will stop training, permits will not be issued because people can't get trained, and a whole new slew of lawsuits will be launched merely to get back to where we are today with getting training approved etc. Money on those lawsuits would be better spent trying to advance the cause rather than making up lost ground.

Why do you think that NY went after the NRA so hard? Because they are all leftists, and leftists understand how to attack a culture. They understood that by killing the NRA you will create chaos with instruction and insurance and all the other non-political things the NRA does. And in that chaos, they will attempt to further gut the 2nd.

You fail to see the forest for the trees here. The second amendment foundation, JFPO and GOA are far better politically than the NRA. But they don't cover all the other things that go into keeping the gun culture alive.

Often the best is the enemy of the good enough. I wish there was a real alternative to the full spectrum that the NRA offers. The GOA and JFPO, for all the good they do elsewhere, don't train the trainers and insure them.

    3. I joined the NRA when Obama was elected. After a couple of years or so, seeing the BS of the NRA, from the A+ ratings of anti gun politicians, to their cooperation on anti gun bills, I stopped.
But about 3 years or so ago, I realized that the only way to fix the NRA is from the inside. So I rejoined, paying only the minimum dues required. I don't sent them another dime. I have given money to other pro gun causes.
The NRA as it should be, is worth saving. If it can be fixed, it should have at least 10 million members, and then it will have a lot more significant clout in regards to gun rights and the BS that the BATFE tries to pull, with the approval of the Democrat congress. There is little doubt that WLP and company will be forced out, based upon the depositions that they gave in their attempt at filing bankruptcy and moving the charter of the NRA to Texas. They are available to read, and will make you sick.
The whole leadership method needs to be changed. 76 board members is too many and unworkable. And the board nominating those who will run for the board is beyond imagination. Hopefully the legal defense of Wayne Lapierre and company won't bankrupt the NRA for real, before it is all over.

    4. Pigpen, I don't need a corrupt organization to teach me or my kids/grandkids how to use a firearm. I also don't need any organization to "preserve"my rights.
The NRA is not worth saving, anymore than the GOP is worth saving. You need to move on and wake up to the fact these "conservative" organizations are just playing you.

    6. I am not worried about the NRA teaching your kids/grandkids about firearms. What I am worried about is who is going to teach the kids of people who are apathetic to guns, or even hostile to guns? They need training about guns also.
Until the Pulse nightclub shooting there was no group that offered free training to anyone, no matter their sexual status. Now, Operation Blazing Sword offers that training, promising to give anyone their first time experience shooting a handgun at no cost to them.
With the huge number of new gun owners that have come into the ranks in the last few years, it is even more important that someone step up and offer training, in a judgement free environment. The NRA is the best group for that, if they get their shit together. If not, then let them fade away. But at least try, because the number of members is large enough to make them heard in DC.

  2. I haven't paid dues since 2014. When President Trump was elected the RINOs controlled both the House and the Senate but national reciprocity wasn't passed. I don't care to support fat cat life styles. I'm already paying taxes to support too many.

  3. The Democrats have gone after Republicans and everybody else for the very things that we find out they’ve been doing until I see otherwise this looks like the same kind of witchhunt. I will say that if they dug as hard in Hillary‘s records what might be found.

  4. At least the NRA takes the heat off groups that actually support gun rights.

But yeah, as long as LaPierre is in charge, they get nothing.

  6. I watched some of the convention the other day. Lee Greenwood virtue signaled his way out of appearing but the NRA played the only song he's known for anyway. Greenwood probably got a royalty check. LaPierre looked like death warmed over and really didn't sound any different than any other time he speaks.

  11. how is it that the NRA Board of Directors, all LaPierre sychophants, are the only people that get to vote for the managing director/president?

Not to mention that LaPierre is a known crook, ripping of the members dues for himself.

Personally, I quit them a long time ago. They've been nothing but compromise since the NFA of 1934. It was the NRA that led to the bans of the 90's and it will do so again with this latest round of unconstitutional bullshit.

I wouldn't piss on that org. if it was on fire.

    1. I agree with Nemo. I dropped my membership when slick Willie was president and the nra pretended to fight him and his assault weapons bans. not a nickel since.

thr nra leadership reminds me of the Scientologists cult.

  12. Yes, the NRA does good.
But imagine how powerful it would be if it were run by more competent people

  13. The NRA is the biggest threat to the 2nd and always has been. Morons need to stop supporting them. GOA is the place to go, if you must.

  14. I support the 2nd Amendment!
I was an NRA member, I quit as I was irritated by the continuous stream of mail soliciting donations. Even though I quit years ago I still get donations request.
I also was disturbed at the OUTRAGEOUS amount the NRA executives pay themselves, along with the lavish perks.
