Adding insult to injury/death/whatever

A 70-year-old woman who was trampled to death by an elephant later had her body stampeded over by the very same wild animal.

Maya Murmu was out collecting water in Raipal village, Eastern India when the escaped elephant came out of nowhere and trampled her on Thursday morning.

She later died in hospital of her injuries, Rasgovindpur police station inspector Lopamudra Nayak said.

Then that evening the elephant returned as the 70-year-old's body lay on top of her funeral pyre.

It took her body down, trampled her again, threw her around and went off into the night, according to the Press Trust of India.

  1. That's kinda funny. Can you imagine the odds? I think they believe in Karma so wonder what she did. Anyway, why do they have an African elephant in the picture if this happened in India?

  5. The old saying "An elephant never forgets," apparently there is more to the story, but we'll never know.

  6. Don't Hindus believe in reincarnation? And that you can come back as a different creature? I'm guessing someone that REALLY didn't like her came back as an elephant and eventually found her.

  7. I read somewhere that in the old days in Siam the King had elephants that were trained as executioners. The pachyderms could be commanded to kill the prisoner - they'd toss the hapless human high in the air and then step on his head to kill him. For punishment short of execution, the King would leave the prisoner in the elephants' pen for a couple of days while the animals rolled him around on the ground.
