Because words matter, right?

The State Park and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to rename a day-use area in the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area after years of calls to do so.

The controversial park name will be temporarily named "Black Miners Bar" after the commission voted 7-0 on Friday at a public hearing. The site was previously called Negro Bar.

  1. I for one, feel worlds better, since they removed the indian girl from my butter, and changed names to Pearl River from Aunt Jemima.

  3. They weren't satisfied with "Negro"? It could have been worse. Better get the USGS or whatever in U.S. Department of Interior to adopt the place-name change as well while they can during the remaining term of this clown-show administration. That might not be guaranteed after the next election. Yee HA .

    1. Mama Gubmint changed the name of Negro Bill Canyon in UT to Grandstaff, the irony being that it had been previously renamed to remedy the offense of Nigger Bill.

  4. There's a hill near Breckenridge, CO called Barney Ford Hill. Hill was a black businessman in the town long ago. I saw an old USGS topo map of the area, back in the day it was called N****r Hill.

  5. The don’t want to call it some like pigment impaired lump? Or maybe melanoma hill? Not sure how black is any better than what it was. I think I need to start howling how I’ve been disenfranchised with all the crap that is going one.

    1. I have similar thoughts. This is clearly racist against all Spanish people, and it's an outrage. OTOH the woke mob only gets riled up when instructed to, so probably no cities will burn over this.

  7. I'd bet big money it wasn't always 'Negro'; a hundred years go, I'd bet it was Nigger Bar, just like 'Black Jack' Pershing wasn't called 'Black Jack' by anybody at the time.
