  4. Hard to know without context, even the date it was taken would help. He might be just be buying flowers for his wife / girlfriend :P. People do sometimes re-marry in old age so they aren't alone; my grandfather took this route and I think he was happier for it.

    Pink flowers symbolize love, happiness, and gentleness; they might be a substitute for Red flowers, which symbolize love, courage, desire, etc.
